ok this i hope is a short post.....
What kind of units should i take to face Tau AND nids in one configuration that would work?
i know to take scouts as i've heard but i dont know much more im in a crucnh so plz keep it short and simple. whoops i forgot im a BA player too.....
Hmmm.....interesting match-ups. I would suggest you take alot of bolt weapons such as heavy bolters, assault cannons and anything else that can shread through nid and tau armour. Nids shouldn't be that muich trouble for you if you keep them pinned down with tons of fire, but try and stay out of close combat with larger models like Carnifex's or whatever they're called. For tau, the only thing you shuld really worry about is their armour suits and possibly any tanks. But a few lascannons should help you out there. Good luck my fellow BA brother

Not to sound like a dummy, but do you mean two seperate matches or one three-way?
I'm assuming it's two seperate ones, but thought I'd ask to make sure.
If it's two seperate ones, that's tough.
Three suggestions for ya-
1) Balance your squads and by that, I mean, points wise. Don't have two or three uber points squads and two or three small points squads. Divvy up your points fairly evenly between the squads you have. This makes it hard for your opponents to pick targets, and it makes him think a little bit. Seems like a lot of folks have set game plans when playing tourney games, and if you can make them think when they're not used to doing it, they're more likely to make a mistake.
2) Use small squads and spread them out. Works against 'nids, because you're probably not going to beat them if they get into CC with you. They chew through a small squad, but now they've got to slog it to the next one while you blast away. Better to lose a couple of small squads rather than one big one in my book. Never played against Tau, but seems like since they're so shooty, a lot of small squads would be able to divide their fire and avoid LOS better than several big ones.
3) Land Speeder Tornados. Murder on 'Nids, murder on anybody, far as I know.
We all carry on,
When our brothers in arms are gone.
So raise your glass high
For tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.
okay well im guessing that this is the 1500pt poxy tourny tour talking about so....
for tau get lots of fast stuff like assault squads and your dc dont take rhinos as there going to go down really fast. get some things to insta kill the big things (forgot what there called right now lol).just get to his lines fats and use cover for your assault suads also get you scouts nice and close and attack at the same time with the scouts and dc asd assault squad and hope to destroy his firering lines and block line of sight aganist you other units get preators get a baal to kill his firewarriours and a pred with all round las cannons to take out his tanks or insta kill but these will die very fast so you will have ti be carful
for nids get plasma and most of the same things
baals for small things and genstealers
pred with all round las for big things
scouts in cover wont last to long but should kill a few genestealers if your in coverrapid fire into anything when it gets close
and dont get you dc or assault squad to ge toe to toe with genestealers of anthing faster then you.
i hope that help i know it wasnt short and sweet like you wanted. so plz try pick out the small bits of info in it.

TAU suck, Blood angels rule
ok seing that tau is one of my other armies i can throw in some help, about the nids too
one- lascannons you will need them, trust me to take out the 'big ones' (TMCs) and since they instakill crisis suits they make those multi wounds near useless and take out those broadsides and hammerheads. Plasma is also quite usefull about both not so much for the hammerhead though.
never ever take suped up characters or termie squads against either tau nor tyranids, i mean tau have lots of stuff that will melt your termies, and whittle down your characters, whereas nids are very faast both in combat and in speed, i mean everything can be geared to have to have I5, hell a tyrant with adrenal glands can have I6.
vehicles can be very good or a waste but if you play them right they can be the downfall, against tau, you better get them out of site of those railguns whereas the nids will not really be able to do much if their TMC get blown away i would choose either a whirlwind or a lascannon all round predator
Landspeader tornado- fast, relatively cheap, can act as a great distraction for all those railguns, rend hammer heads and crisis suits, take out those synapse warriors nuff said strongly recommended
one more thing take allot of tactical squads smaller ones (bout 5) each totting either lascannon for those things described above, plasma which can be help full, or missile launchers for versatility, try to give them specific tasks, such as those with missile launcher let them tear up the smaller nids whereas those with lascannons can act snipers at the above.
assault squads led by cheap chaplain, quite effective against tau as ive seen one squad destroy a whole army.
i think thats about all i can say for now might add some more later
Im assuming you're going to be playing BA given your previous posts? If so, I have a few suggestions that might help you out.
First, make sure your DC and chaplains are jump-packed, use them as your primary assault unit to hit those pesky Tau shooty squads, any Broadsides that are lurking around, and possibly any lighter vehicles that you might be able to pop with meltabombs. This should provide you with a quick striking assault unit that will reduce the number of shots coming in your direction.
Second, focus on the shooty power of the almighty bolter. Bolters will shred just about enemy unit you are likely to see on the table. I would recommend taking tactical squads kitted with bolters and plasma weapons, and if possible in Razorbacks with lascannons on them. I know its kind of a risk against Tau, but if you can take out or tie up their railguns quickly, it wont be too bad. Tyranids lack alot of tank-busting ability so the Razorback will be reasonably safe. Also consider taking a Baal Predator or two. Those suckers shred through high armour saves like nothing. Since every shot you would be putting on target has a sufficient AC to penetrate both Tau and nid basic armour, they should be EXTREMELY effective. LS tornadoes will also be extremely helpful as a manuverable firebase. A squad of LST's should be able to annhilate any Nid troops unit in one round of shooting.
In conclusion, although its a bit of a danger against Tau armies, I think you should rely more heavily on a shooty army for this tournament. Trying to assault nids is simply going to get you killed....their MC's will mow through you quickly, and they get alot more models and thus more attacks in CC. Use the power of SM ranged weaponry to limit this ability as much as possible.
i like whirlwinds!
maybe with the mines for the nids, to slow them down for assaulting
it turns out that they are now letting us take a 2000pt pool and only feild 1500pt force
hes new to tournaments so aperently he wants us to be able to adjust to our enemies YAY!
I've dealth with both races before in a 2 on 2 1500 pt game. Only 2 things to worry about against TAu. Firewarriors are evil if they have a lot. S5 shots at longer range will kill your marines if you're not careful but rockets or dreadnought can counter that. Have some lascannons to deal with battlesuits and tanks but you my wanna split the heavy fire between the tau tanks and the monstrous creatures. Heavy bolters work well against both but I always seem to fail my shots. TwT. Assault squads will be the offensive work here taking out anything. (I love my assault squads....took out a firewarrior squad and made them run from morale chek...massacre!.....oh and power weapons on them really kill suits.....its not like they can really melee.
For tyranids I'd pray to god you have rocketlaunchers or something. A devastator squad of four rockets can kill just about anything the nids can throw at you....cept maybe upped carnifex but the chance of killing like 7-15 genestealers per turn is nice. THats what I used agaisnt bro. Make sure you have some extra marines in devi squads to take wounds. Ummm bolters and lots of it. Tactical squads will help you lay down fire agaisnt gaunts. ANything else you hafta leave up for lascannons......carnis will eat you alive!
ummm as far as recommendation on units.....2 predators to kill tau and aid with carnifex with rocket launcher devis for gaunts and genes....
an assault squad to kill annoying firewarriors and battlesuits....melta bombing tanks too
lots of marines with heavy bolters and rockets in squads to fight against tyranids rushing across board......make sure you far away from those hormies........*shudder*
ummm dreadnoughts can be a walking lascannon platform if it doesn;t get killed by tau railguns but I woulnd't use them.
Against Tau you want to lock up as many of their units in CC as you can. Assault sqauds with a powerfist sergeant, either a chaplain with a jump pack or librarian on a bike (i favor the librarian), and most importantly a dreadnought or two. My dread single handedly won me a few games against tau; Assault cannon and a CC wep and if you take another take a missile launcher and a twin linked las. If only one, I would take a the TL las and the CC arm. I like using termies against tau, it draws a lot of fire away from your main assault squads and if they neglect either or they are toast. As for the tac squads, missile launchers, heavy bolters, and maybe a plasma cannon or two.
Nids you just need to keep pinned down with fire as was mentioned before. Try to take out the synapse creatures to break their lines. Avoid CC as much as you can and spread out your units. You dont want your LOS blocked by combat.
