Quick question for the board:
How do you tend to equip your armored fist squads?
I'm starting to think a heavy weapon is wasted in the squad, since they tend to be moving most of the time. 90% of battles, their role is going to be move-and-shoot instead of stand-and-shoot, so I'm thinking about paring it down to a CC sgt, 8 lasguns, and a flamer/melta/GL.
What do folks think of this? (My chimeras both have autocannon predator turrets, following IA, so the squad would still have some heavy punch there.)
For the chimera, I give it a turret multi-laser and a hull heavy bolter. If I've got the points it might also get a pintle heavy stubber and a smoke launcher.
The squad itself is intended to be moving, I use my armoured fist squads for objectives and therefore I don't want a HW to slow them down. I give mine a vox caster and a meltagun. To keep them from running and to have something to shoot with incase something big comes their way.
Yeah, the vox is a good idea.
I Like to load up my chimnera's with a Multi-laser and hull heavy bolter. As for the squad/// it depends what kind of mission im Playing. If it's take and hold, I'll bring a heavy weapon along to help keep a position. If it's just running around, capturing Various Objectives (such as the enemys flag[yes, I do play CTF with 40k ] then I'll keep the squad light.
I am a big believer in a Multilaser/HeavyBolter/HeavyStubber/Smoke for chimeras. it gives these guys a surprising amount of firepower.
As for the squad inside, it really depends on what you want.
1. use them just like a line squad and use empty chimera as an light attack tank. equip the squad just like it was a member of the platoon.
2. objective capper. Since i don't use Vox (that much) i'd rather put a VetSgt in there (w/ a bolter) and give them either a GL (or PG) and HB. The GL can be fired on the move and the HB is always nice to have. the chimera runs up and dumps the squad off and they have to fend for themselves, so a HB comes in handy.
3. suicide squad. personally i think command squads work much better (more guns less men), so i never use AF like this (one special weapon usually misses for me ). but if you do, throw a meltagun in there and hunt tanks. or a flamer to put the hurt on a horde.
4. tank flank. a missle launcher or a lascannon and nothing else is your best bet. also, the chimera shouldn't have a Hstubber. now just move the chimera so that you flank enemy armor, and shoot them w/ lascannon/missle.
personally, i'd rather just infiltrate an anti-tank squad, but the AF squad can work as well.
well i am sure there's other layouts, but these imo are the most common.
BoxAnt pretty well said it.
I like also the Heavy Flamer o' Doom Chimera with hull heavy flamer and turret heavy flamer. Drop your armoured fist squad off, or take an assault squad in it( with flamer ), make sure you use cover and smoke to get this HOT tank towards enemy troops in a building or something. Once in a while you get one of these puppies in, and it is fun!!! S5 AP4 template.
Also don't be afraid to sit a Chimera back and pop the hatch and shoot the heavy weapon. I like to do this with another Heavy Bolter. Very nice anti troop tank then. Multi-Laser - two Heavy bolters and a stubber.

I use two AF's in my Daemonhunters army. Since DH is relatively heavy weapons-light, I put a lascannon & plasma gun in each AF squad. On the Chimeras, I have multilaser/heavy bolter. Once I get in the game, I actually don't use the squads and their transports together - I use the squads as stock-standard infantry, and the Chimeras as independent anti-infantry units. Works fairly well.
