I recently deciceded to up grade my guard army and have come upon a problem. I have six squads and i have a lascannon in one and an autocannon in another but i was wondering what else i should put in the others?? I was thinking about 2 hb, another autocannon, and the other option im not sure. Any suggestions. I like autocannons as they can deal with light tanks and also get 2 shots.

You'll need some lascannons or missle launchers to deal with the heavy stuff. But autocannons are pretty good. I usally take a fire support squad with 2 Autocannons and a heavy bolter and put ML's And Lascannons in my squads.

Yep, Id buy enough heavy weapons (One Hvy Weapons Platoon Box should be enough if you convert some stuff and get some extra of the large bases) teams to make 3 more Lascannons, 3 more Autocannons and 3 Hvy Bolters.
This will give you the options of taking an Anti-Tank Support Squad (3 Lascannons, with enough bits to make 3 Missile Launchers too!) or 2 complete Fire Support Squads (1 full of Autocannons, 1 full of Hvy Bolters)
You can take the Lascannon squad against armored foes (like IG) and take the fire support squads against softer targets (like Orks). You'll get a lot more firepower and a lot more flexibility out of buying one box.
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
You can make all fifteen heavy weapons from the box with some extra bodies, although I didn't make the mortars. It's a pretty good deal, $35 plus a few extra guardsman bodies.
Missile Launchers are great, good against horde and power armour armies. Heavy Bolters are good too, with a lot of dakka.
all HWs have their function, but some are more functional than others. but imo, you should have access to all of them.
Lascannon = anti tank. it's simply a must. in a 1000+ point game you'd be nuts to not bring at least 3 (better bring some missles to). they're good at taking out MEQ (marine equivalent) and Termies, but imo it's a waste to shoot them because they should be hunting armor to get their points back (only shoot at them if there's no armor in LOS).
Missles = a versitile weapon. but personally i view it as an anti MEQ weapon. great to give to a line squad w/ a plasmagun and put the hurt on some MEQ. however, they can also hunt light/medium armor. i like to sometimes use a triplemissle support squad and infiltrate it w/ LightInfantry and attack enemy side armor.
Autocannon = a great tranport stopper! a support squad w/ 3 autocannons will put the hurt on any rhino/chimera/raider/truck or even dread. and after all the light/med vehicles are popped, it can also act as a pretty nice anti-infantry weapon.
HeavyBolter = my favorite this is a great gun and can be effectivly against virtually any infantry target. it's a myth to think that HB aren't good against MEQ. if you crunch the numbers, you'll see that a HB isn't that far behind a missle launcher at taking out SpaceMarines. And if those space marines are in cover, then the HB is equal to or even better (depending on cover). And if you're up against nonMEQ then a HB is a beast
Mortar = "the other HW". it's not a popular weapon unfortunatly. this is simply because most people use MEQ and mortars aren't that good against MEQ i think mortars are a fun/fluffy weapon and *can* be effective in the right situation. but the only place i'd ever use them is in a command squad that's out of LOS.
really you can get by with just Lascannons and HeavyBolters. each is the best weapon for it's job (anti tank / anti infantry). But imo, it's rather dull to just use a bunch of identical squads. I like to use a variety of weapons.. it seems more guardy lol
I think it depends on what type of squad it is going into. It's all about focus.
For line squads I like a Missle Launcher, or Heavy Bolters, with a plasma rifle, and Grenade Launchers, focus on troops.
For HW squads, I like Lascannons, keep the focus on tanks or Termies. Lascannons don't cost anymore than in line squads. HB, Autocannons, and ML's all cost five more points each in HW squads.

boxant pretty much summed up everything
i love mls(currently have 3 but no lascannons im getting lascannons on tuesday)
mls are great vs light armor but vs av 14 youll run into some trouble
it costs 10 less pts the lc in regular squads
lc support squads can be problematic though
usally in a squad an opponent has to slaughter 8 guys to get to lc while 1 good ordance shot can put your entire lc at squad outta comision
Personally I like to take the vet doctrine using two 6 man squads for lascannons hitting on 3's and sitting way back In hard cover works great, I find placing Lascannons and missiles In squads can waste Las or plasma shots If shooting tanks.
The best support weapons for line squads are HB / Plasma or AC / Plasma my preference anyway (hasn't failed me yet!)

so for 7 more points you can get a 10man squad w/ a lascannon. true it's not BS4 and it can't infiltrate (for free), but it doesn't take an elite slot and you have 4 more guys to protect the thing.
i like using my elite slots for deepstriking stormies and my vet squad (or even allies if i'm nutty).
but i totally agree, HB+PG is a great line squad
A lot of people like autocannons, and I understand their arguments but I don't much care for them. They are one of those things that (in my experience) work out on paper, but not in actual gameplay. For me, if I'm shooting at tanks, I want either a lascannon or a missile launcher- the strength 7 really hurts you when you're trying to kill real heavy tank like a predator, and it can't hurt AV14 at all. Plus if you're playing smurfs, like I always am, a missile launcher is better than the autocannon at killing a basic power armor marine too. And if I'm shooting at any other infantry I want a heavy bolter, as you get one more shot, it's cheaper, and you already wound everything on a 2 or a 3.
I used a cadian army before I sold it to get my Steel Legion, and I don't miss the autocannons one bit. However, if autocannons were AP3 this would change things, but that's not going to happen.
They're good if you play someone who always fields tons of rhinos though.
