I have been playing SM for a while and I thought I would try something new ang go IG. I recently got BF2 and so i decided to make an army based on that game. It would be infantry based and there would be a field commander who can call in a supply drop and artillery strikes. Thing is, i dont know how to do this. To do any of his special moves the commander has to be alive.
I was thinking that the commander could drop supplys every 2 rounds and to drop it, i would use a scatter and 2 dice. Any unit within 12" of the supply box would be able to reroll one armor save and reroll one missed shot. any ideas on this?
for artillery, i was thinking that it can be called in once every 3 rounds and the squad who gives the location willl have to be 24" or something. since the arty. in BF2 shots many rounds, i was thinking either 2-3 shots of the big blast marker, or 8-9 small blasters. As for the specs of the arty, maybe a strngth 7? AP of 3 or 4?
any ideas would be well appreciated. I havent played in a while, i used to play SM, and that was my only army
as a fellow BF2 player, i can see why you'd want to do this.
however, there's really no game mechanic that can represent a "supply drop" in 40k the time scale isn't long enough to warrent the need for supply. so unless all the people you play with are cool w/ using house rules, you may want to axe that idea.
as for the arty, just take a basalisk or two. after all in BF2 no one has to "spot" for the arty, the commander just calls it in. so as the commander, just tell the bassies where to drop the boom.
take some special weapon squads and give them demolition charges to represent special ops.
and you could even take an enginseer and make him an engineer.
I believe there are rules for Orbital Bombardments in either the Witch Hunter or Demnon Hunter codex, sounds like it could be along the lines of what you are looking for.
EDIT: Found it, its on page 37 in the Witch Hunter Codex

it's a Heavy choice for both WH and DH.Originally Posted by GuardinGnome

It didnt sound like he was going for a GW in-store legal list anyway, so I figured I would suggest some options that already had rules for them instead of trying to come up with something from scratch.
