Death Watch/IC and the tech marine

Per US WD305 the only units that can be DW are Tac, Vet, and Cmd/IC. In that the codex states the Elite choice Tech marine is a IC that would make the TM a viable candidate for DW correct? That so considering the TM is part of the Machine God cult how would you model the proper sholder pad configuration? All so how would you utilize him? I'm thinking of a basic TM with DW upgrade and the M40 bolter, then placing him with my Dev squad. This would allow me to utilize the 2x 24" range heavy option for shooting and still be able to support the dev's with the signum reroll. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

Edited to reflect proper WD issue

That sounds a little shifty. Although you're technically correct, I've never heard of a Techmarine in the Deathwatch. People would have issues, I think. The Deathwatch are not a Chapter unto themselves, they're the elite fighting force of the Ordo Xenos. Regular Marines from all different Chapters serve a tour of duty in the Deathwatch. They're provisioned by the Ordo Xenos so they wouldn't need a Techmarine. Still, it seems legal (unless I'm forgetting something about the Techmarine rules).

Anyway, for the shoulderpad, just use the Deathwatch pad that comes with the Tactical box. Clip the Techmarine's left shoulder pad off, transplant on a plastic shoulder from a normal Marine (without a shoulder pad), then stick the Deathwatch pad on.

Your tactics seem alright, though I think a normal Techmarine in a servo-harness would be more effective.

Wait, no one answered my question. I thought that Alien Hunters weren't out yet.

Sorry smguy . You're right, the codex isn't out yet (and won't be for quite some time, apparantly). However, an article was published in American WD 305 (not 304) giving the rules for Deathwatch Killteams and for upgrading certain members of a Space Marine army to Deathwatch Veterans (allowing them access to Deathwatch-only gear). This is, I guess, just to tide us over until Codex: Alien Hunters actually arrives.

For those who read the UK edition it's in number 306.
You don't even have to make the tech-marine an HQ choice since the rules say "Independent Characters or members of Headquarters [etc etc]". All HQ characters as well as the standard tech-marines are covered there.
Fluffwise it's not so hard to imagine a member of the machine cult in a kill-team. They have to be self-sufficent to a large extent and to have someone around that can maintain those suspensors and other specialist equipment could be useful. They could also help when assaulting for example Necrons or other technologically advanced races, though the knowledge required for those missions would be bordering on heretical.
98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot.
The other 2% are smart enough to question the 'science' behind that number...
    And it's spelled EMPEROR!

Yeah I brought this up a while ago, and the consensus was (barely) that while it was legit ruleswise, it wasn't too fluffy. My rationale was that to become a member of the DW, the marine just had to be good at fighting aliens, which TM can do as well as any other marine, and that the TM's extra knowledge of tech might be useful to a killteam in the field (not so much with repairs and stuff, but with disabling xenos systems or hacking). I am still going to model and paint the DW TM, as a display piece if anything.

I was thinking its very fluffwise consistent, after all one of the only vehicles they can use is a Rhino, guess he's along to aid in field repairs not to mention getting the machine gods blessing on all the bolters.

On another note, would you kit him out with a full harness if he was joining a kill team? That coupled with the librarian would make for lots of good juicy squished bug's dont you think?
