What an awesome forum!
I'm starting an IG army (former Dark Eldar player) and although i love the standard Cadian grunt i've never been a fan of Official factions or themes. I get a real kick out of conversions and ultra fluffy armies (dispite their battlefield effectiveness or lack thereof) and so i'm asking this question at anyone who knows the Imperial Guard range intimately and also collects Warhammer Wood Elves. . .
The new Glade Guard Wood Elves are amazing mini's (although i have no intention of playing Fantasy battles) and i'm wondering if the legs would be compatible with the cadian torsos, you see i love the Cameleoline Doctrine and the Glade Guard cloaks and heads are perfect to represent that (for a kind of forest fremen type theme, similar i guess to the Tanith First and Only sketches). So my Question boils down to this:
Is the scale of the glade guard legs compatible with the cadian torsos and if so are the shoulder pad clad ARMS of the cadians with lasguns also compatible with Glade Guard legs?
I'm highly inspired by this idea but am afraid i might end up paying alot of money to a have a few custom guards that look like big stocky guys with spindly little legs - yuk.
If its feasable scale wise, could ya let me know?
The doctrines i want to use for my theme are as follows:
Basically it's going to be a Mercenary Force of a Noble House from a world that has a high culture and plentiful mineral resources but was only fairly recently (last few hundred years) re assimilated into the Imperium. As such, they pay tithe to keep things sweet but for the most part hire themselves out as elite recon and retrieval specialists for the Honor of the House as well as a few bucks and heretical artifacts in the process (which they sell for even more bucks). With the credits they make they buy black market Carapace armor, Chimera Transports (hence the grenadiers) and Sentinels to add some staying/fire power to an otherwise light, hit and run force.
Anyway, let me know if it's worth a go. If it won't work i'll probably end up going for a stormtrooper heavy 'oh so done' mechanised IG force with little character
Well, considering that the stansard Guardsman has cargo-pants on, (instead of being armored) I would think that the Glade Guard legs would work fine, just don't paint the bare legs underneath, cuz that would look bad, IMO.
Also, some of the most original fluff for an IG force I have ever seen! It is nice and different than the norm, and it is nice and feasible(sp?) compared to others I have seen, good job!
"Through most of the war we fought as nobles might. Never betraying, never decietful. But there came a point where tripping the soldier next to you might mean another day of life..."
I'm not entirely familiar with the Glade Guard models but you may run aground due to the fact that IG legs have the lower half of a tunic on them. If glade guards have belts you should be ok though.
One noteon your fluff, i doubt that the imperium would allow your house to own heretical artifacts... unless of course they don't know about it.
Good luck, please post pictures if you can because this sounds like a pretty good conversion idea.
They shall be my Imperial Guard and they shall know some fear...
I love the fluff and the idea but IMHO i think the pants on teh legs wouldnt go with the baggy shirt on the arms. Maybe if you took wood elves arms too, but like figured out a way to convert them so they have lassguns then that would be super cool.
