When it comes to facing Daemon Princes, there's really only one solution: Shoot him with anti-Marine firepower. Seriously, it works. Use a shooty list with lascannons, plasma guns/cannons, and missile launchers up the wazoo. Something fast like a Land Speeder Tornado would be great bait for it, and you might actually take off a wound before even rolling to wound. Another great addition would be a Baal Predator, seeing as it can move just into assault cannon range and let 'er rip on the thing. Use the Chaplain/Death Company as a screen to hold him up if you need to. Feel No Pain will be negated, but the Fearlessness will stick around even after the Chaplain bites the dust.
If you want more specific advise, I'd like to know which Legion he plays. I could go into even more detail then.
Victorus aut mortis,
Librarian with a familliar, on a bike, veil of time, bolt pistol, force sword, termie honours, iron halo ,artificer armour.
eqautes to: 6 attacks with re-rolls to hit, wound and your invunerable save. or you dont use the power and kill it with the force weapon power......
Trust me, sending a tooled Librarian against a Daemon Prince just gives Victory Points to the Chaos player. Why, you ask? Because no matter how much you tool up your Librarian (or any character for that matter), the Daemon Prince can be tooled up more and can kill you far more easily. Oh, and there's the Dread Axe, a Daemonic Weapon that ignores invulnerable saves and always wounds on a 4+ unless a lower roll is normally needed. I'm willing to bet the Daemon Prince in question will have Daemonic Stature, so any character that goes against him will be promptly splatted. Trying to beat a Daemon Prince at his own game never works. I should know since I did the same thing starting out and still use it as a last resort tactic. Close combat with any Daemon Prince is a very bad idea unless you want to set up a temporary, Fearless screen (i.e., Chaplain & Death Company).Originally Posted by bonjordo
I have waxed my fair share of Daemon Princes before they ever made it into melee with my firepower, and I'd recommend it to any Marine player. Never play to the Daemon Princes strengths (tooling up and close combat). Remember the words of Kenton Kilgore, who plays the famous Fighting Tigers of Veda. Don't sweat the big guns, sweat the little guys. It will be your Tactical and Devastator Marines that kill him, not some tooled character. Here, I'll throw in a quote from his site.Just stock up on ordinary guys and shoot the crap out of him. He will die if you play to his weaknesses (Monsterous Creature and lack of long-range firepower) and not his strengths.Originally Posted by Kenton Kilgore, Fighting Tigers of Veda
Blood_angelmarine, a Daemon Prince can be very nasty indeed. The problem is getting him into melee, where 99.99% of his nastiness is. Unless he has something that allows him to move faster than a footslogger (Daemonic Gift or mundane wargear), he'll need three turns to get into melee. That's three turns he's exposed to your shooting. Take advantage ot this and at least wound him severely before he reaches your lines. Just find some nice, long-range, high-strength, AP 3 (or even AP 2) weapons and you will turn him into paste in no time.
Victorus aut mortis,
well i amsuminf that your useing blood angels. i always play aganist a khorne player and i always just lascannon him and then finish him up in cc with my chaplian. if thoses gus are ment to be tough then then something is really messed up
ps this daemon price of khorne is about 214 points or some thing like that but he can be taken out very esaly :p
hope that help and teach those chaos scum who is best
TAU suck, Blood angels rule
The standard approach to DP is to shoot him with tank killers, Las, missile launcher, plasma, any will do, more shots the better (plasma guns are a good choice too). This is generally used because by DP people tend to mean Chaos lord with dmonic stature, as oppose to the litteral meaning which may mean he can not be targeted.
For BA players, you may find yourself rather short on the heavy weapon front.
Things that can work:
Baal Pred - those assult cannons can hurt
Power fists in squads - it will probably cost you the squad but you ought to be able to do some damage - note that DC is not the wises choice as he probably instakills them, loosing their ignore injury roll
Furioso dreads - you furious charge, so you I is increased, you ought to hit first or at the same time, if he hasnt upped his T too much you can instakill him!
heros - okj one on one - he will probably detroy any given hero (chaplain, libby, master, SHP stc) but bear in mind you can put them with a squad, this can really hurt him, if you have shot him up first, you may stand a decent chance
He plays Iron Warriors and the prince is faaaast. It can move 12 inches and assault 6. It also has the soulblade thing so in CC there is no save what so ever. He hasnt told me what else is on it so thats all the info I got. And the problem with things like tanks and dreads is that he has 1 obliut with 2 more well on the way. He deep strikes them in and blows me to high heaven. With the BA army I have right now, Its is impossible to defeat something like a daemon prince.

It's a tough one I'm currently building my BA's up and while I think my list Is fairly competitive and balanced, demon princes will allways cause BA assault orientated armies problems.
Options include 5/6 man Lascannon plasma sqauds, 2 x Plasma pistol hidden PF assault squads, tornado speeders, Baal predators etc
Whats this a space marine thinking it is impossible to defeat chaos.....
do not give into despair brother.......lol
sorry bored at work
yeah the oblits tend to cause quite alot of trouble in a players back field. I play chaos as well as loyal space marines, and i love using my oblits to do exactly what your buddy does to you.
But the same thing will work for the oblits that will work for the DP, heavy weapons with ap 2 or ap1.
what do you bring to the table, we will be able to help you out more when we know what you have to work with.
what else does your buddy bring to.
Another option could be to bring In a few demolisher cannons!!
the strength 10 will almost allways insta-kill DP
As mentioned already If you post up what you have to play with I'm sure we could come up with something to slay the DP
