Im asking what you think of this unit
10 veteran marines
termie honours on all
1 power weapon
1 power fist
sergeant with power fist
all models with bp and ccw
total cost = 300 pts exactly
Now this unit is very small for 300 pts and very vulnerable. Even terminators would look better than this. What do you guys think of this squad? maybe taking out the terminator honours?
This shows why vets are bad.
They're only good with infiltrate or tank hunters and a few weapons choices.
It's too easy to go overboard, and you have.
I mean, you don't even need a battlecannon to take it out. A footslogging unit will fail enough saves from any army.
In 4th edition, even the most modest of combat units is good enough.
I agree by and large with onlainari, although in largeer armys it would not be too bad, but we are talking around 2500+ points forces
yes true true maybe 2 tactical squads are better each with a vet sgt that has a powerfist
two scout squads with vet sgts with power fists are better.
scouts r better? how?
how do i get the power fist for the scout sergeant (are they the same ones as for normal marines?)
Scouts are very good assault options for marines,
firstly they can infiltrate so take less time getting into an assault, so get shot less
secondly they can move through cover, meaning that once they have infiltrated they tend to be in cover, increasing their survivability again
next they have 2 weapons, so get an extra attack with the same stats as a marine (twice as effective - although not sttrictly true as they would get 3 attacks on the charge wheras a marine gets 2)
Vet sgts can be bought and equiped in the same way as those for tac squads
Sure you got one point less save, but hey unless he has AP4 weaponry that really doesnt make much difference and is more than compensted for by the other points.
You've obviously never play Tau. 4+ save is nothing to brag about.
There once was a Lord named Vlad,
Who's fighting skillz really were mad.
He killed and he maimed,
He spilled blood in Khorne's name.
And the fact that he's legal makes me glad
(special thanks to Uriel Zarium for the last line/touching it up)
I personnally don't like veterans at all. They are too expensive and aren't very useful really.
A billion chinese can't be wrong - eat rice.
True, but most armies would not field as much AP4 weapons against marines (a predominantly 3+ army) as they will against Tau (mostly 4+ saves). So even though they will be shot with plasma and other marine killers, they won't take that many hits as they would against heavy bolters and the like.
So, I agree that Scouts are a better unit for assault in vanilla marines.
