whats the best marine weapon ever? im not just talking about weapons of mass destruction, im also talking about how much damage it does with respect to the points cost.
My favorites will be
1. The bolt pistol 1 extra attack (often power weaponed)
2. The plasma cannon high damage blast long range
3. The plasma gun cheap high damage
what do you guys think?
I think the question is pretty dumb, no offence, but different weapons work in different situations, cover comes in to it, as does the ability of the weilder and the person being hit. I appreciate you tried to qualify it, but even so
Okay, let me rephrase the question. Which space marine weapon has helped you out the most in a game? Also consider the points cost.
The boltgun... The standard Marine weapon and it packs one hell of a punch... S4 Ap5, rapid fire and 24" range is one mean weapon...
Bolters... *snikers* I'll stick to my Pulse Rifles anyday; there better.
Anyways, I'm not sure what to say. I suppose I'll go with Thuderhammers just because I've had the most luck with them then any other single weapon.

My chaplain's power weapon's made the most kills I think and it comes free as well.

Only because of the range when static. Once you factor in BS of the firer, they are the same. The marines hit more and the Tau wound more. A marine with a bolter is more effective against a T7 target actually because they both need a 6 to wound and the marine hits more. Hidden Powerfist, no questions asked.
This is pretty aparent as if you serahc through the other races forums, you will see countless references to "ARG! Those dammn hidden powerfists of the SM". The sheer annoyance of trying to eliminate one holds it up above the rest of the weaponry in the SM arsenal and it can damage anything in the game.
Of course, hidden means they are on sergeants, not IC's. Powerfists on IC's are one of the worst weapons in the agme (unless it is given to them as a secondary weapon, but I find it to costly then)
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I agree, I'm a huge power fist fan, and I have to say that my mood becomes happier every time the initiative 1 phase come up. The opponents I play always try their best to deprive my power fist guy of a kill zone, but its useless most of the time and the fist will kill 1 or 2 guys on the average, and more on the charge. I've taken so many things out with it, from Necron lords, to Deamon Princes, to Scarabs, to Tanks.
I guess you could say chainfists are good too, but they are a rare thing to use as you need Terminators for them, and then people will avoid them like a plague.

Seeing as you said of all time, I'm gonna go with the V2 assault cannon. S8 and 9 sustained fire dice. I have seen it break an armys back. Or, as happened more often, it shattered a squad or two and blew up.
If you mean in V4 only, I would have to go with the hidden power fist. I don't play SMs any more but I have lost more 'Fexes to them then anything else.
