    On the subject of scouts...

I was wondering what people thought of scout squads. I see a lot of armies that have at least one scout squad in them and I agree that they have their uses. I would like to know how people think that a scout squad is best configured. My opinion would be a sniper squad with a HB (cause it has the same range as a sniper rifle) that you used to pick off the large dudes like MC, TMC, HQ, and wraithlord. What do you think?

    Next:
    Nurgle IG AC/Grenadiers

The Heavy Bolter is a waste ...

    Why?

The Sniper Rifle is designed to hit lots, and wound high toughness attackers, forcing them to take lots of saves. Heavy bolters are much more anti-Infantry, so it's like giving two purposes to one squad (bad idea!).

    That's my opinion, anyways.

I run a 6-man sniper squad, and in upgrading the points I am considering throwing in an 8 to 10 man BP + CCW squad with a Vet. Sergeant using a Power Fist. Reasonably cheap (cheaper than a Tactical squad), and being able to Infiltrate will make it a high-priority threat ... leaving room for the rest of my army to stay alive. And if they hit CC, they hit just as hard as normal Marines.

Ok I see what you're saying and you're absolutely right. My friends play GK and Nids so I would use the scout squads to set up in range of his grand master or HT respectively then pepper them with sniper fire till they die.

In any case the scouts will have to wait till my 1500 version (and December 3rd )

Usually, snipers are better vs. things like C'tan, Daemon Princes, 'Nid Big Bugs, and Wraithlords - things like that.

Grand Masters and retinues fall just as easily as normal Space Marines do ... plasma time!

scouts are just as useful without the s. rifle

Infiltrate them behind 6'' of area terrain like woods this will put them out of line of sight from the enemy this lets them set up 12'' from the enemy. From there you can use the scouts ability to move through cover toso they can move 6'' forward through the cover and then they can begin assaulting the enemy tying them up some of the long range super shooty units in cc so that the rest of your force can move less molested by enemy forces.

    Snipers still rule though

Infiltrate says you have to be outside of 12'' if there is no line of sight, so no first turn charge
    Take life seriously, its lethal.

Actually Cypher's strategy still works as they will use their regular move to get through the woods and into LOS in time to be able to both shoot and charge. So it would work.... but snipers still rule .

    Mmm...snipers...

I like a 9-sniper 1-HB. The thing is, snipers are actually good against charging squads. They pin. So I use the snipers to pin the sqaud and the HB to cause casualties. It works pretty well, or at least it has so far.
