Can someone explain to me how doctrines work, I have read the codex several times and it still makes no sense to me. Do I have to choose doctrines or cna I pass on it. Which ones are helpful and which are useless.. I am lost here any help would be appreciated.
There are three options:
1) You can pick no doctrines. This means you have no bonus skills, but also have access to all troop types.
2) You can pick one of the regiments in the back and use all their doctrines, even if there are more than five.
3) You can choose five doctrines of your own. This lets you customize your options, but you have to burn doctrines to gain access to restricted troop types.
Personally, my favorite doctrines are, in no particular order and not including troop choices:
Close Order Drill
Sharpshooters sounds really great, but is kind of a mixed bag
I think there's a sticky tactica on this at the top of the IG forum. And here it is:

Some of the best doctrines are close order drill and veterans since they give you some very good options for free. Warrior weapons is ussually considered useless as is cyber enhancement. Light infantry, sharpshooters, and Iron discipline are also very good doctrines.
