just a question about black templars
how is the army style of play and why would you pick templars over say blood angels or another chapter?
i know aout the emp champ and how he is a nice IC killer but what else do they have?
Ghost's of Terra
Black Templars are a fanatic religious order who are geared for CC. They excell at in your face tactics. they can have more units per squad and can have more then one Land raider crusader!
Black Templars are better at close combat than even the vaunted Blood Angels for a few reasons:
1. Blood Angels are unpredictable. You can never be quite sure how numerous the Death Company will be. You can never be quite sure if that Dev Squad is going to pointlessly run forward instead of firing its missile launchers. You can never be quite sure if you're going to lose an expensive Terminator to the Death Company. In a game of precision, the Blood Angels' volatile nature adds another element of imprecision.
2. Black Templar Squads can be more numerous. The biggest Blood Angel unit can be ten, excluding the Death Company. Black Templar can take many more models in a single unit.
3. Black Templar have vows which can improve upon the Furious Charge of the Blood Angels.
WHFB: Dwarfs || WH40k: Imperial Fists, Necrons || WM/H: Trollbloods || BFG: Necrons
I wouldnt say one is hands down better than the other, they just use different means to achieve the same goals.
Black templars are an assualt oriented army using relentlessness, numbers, and close combat skill to win in close combat, and forgoes the use of Devestator squads and also have no Librarians since they have a large distrust of psykers. They have Vows which enhance their abilities during combat, but currently have no access to veteran abilities of any kind. They're getting a new codex in November though, and this will probably give them veteran abilities to use and balance them more.
Blood Angels also like assualt and use their sheer brute strength and viciousness to win in close combat. They have wide access to Furious Charge, the ability that makes you gain +1 Strength and Initiative on a charge. Yes, Blood Angels are unpredictable because of a rule which makes them randomly charge forward occasionally, but that also works to your enemy's disadvantage as well, since they never know when your men will flip out and charge maniacly.
Blood Angels can switch it up and deal damage at a range with their devestators, and have special units such as the Death Company (Badass mofos who decimate the enemy in close combat) the Baal predator(a sick anti-infantry tank) and the Furioso Dreadnought(a close combat death machine).

the drawback of the BT is that they have to charge an enemy squad when they take up casualties and fail there leadership test this can mean that you charge a squad of which you canĀ“t win that time and lose a squad in that way.
a nice tool for us is that we can give our squads CCW and BP and put them in a drop pod. if you do this properly you have the advantege not to foot slog and take less casualties.
DonĀ“t mess with the dicegod
They only charge due to shooting calsualties. This can be a bad thing but if you play a "real" BT army like I used to, (Heavy Weapons? What are those?) it really isn't that bad. One real drawback that I found in my 3 years of playing BT is you tend to win big or lose big, there is really no middle ground for them.
