Are DH a cheap army? I have very little $$ and got really bogged down buying models for my IG.. only at about 800 pts now. I also have another totally unrelated question. what does MEQ mean? I hear it referred to with psycannons
No DH are not cheap. ALmost all their infantry models are metals, IST cost nearly $50(Can) for ten, and they are the troops choice i think that are pretty common. THen FAGK come in packs of 5 i beleive with one justicar and they aren't much cheaper then the ist. And finally the GKT Cost $75 for 5. and not to mention you need to buy most pecial weapons seperate.
However i have never built an army before so do not yke what i say as truth, these are my opinions
Agate's Theorem TM
Awesome + Awesome = Double Awesome
army is overall cheap because you dont need lots of models and they are stronger and wont break like plastic
Ghost's of Terra
DH are fairly Cheap, try IG, that is one expensive army, as in a 2000pt list you can have over 100 troops, and lots of Tanks.
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
The individual models aren't cheap. Grey Knight Termies are £30 for 5, which is the sole reason I don't have any in my DH army. However, like people said, you don't need many models for a 1000pts force, so as an army it will be cheaper than others.

So now you understand what people mean when they say e.g. "Eldrich storm sucks against MEQs, I'd rather spend the cost on Starcannons" or something like that.
Yes they are cheap, (small numbers) and good.
Cadian 20 men troops set (use as storm troopers)
get 2 melta and 2 plasma storm troopers for special weapons.
Get 10 GKs (2 5man GK packs)
Get One GK termie 5man box
Get one Dread
That is as cheap as I can think for full size games.
Then you can get more vehicles, or move into Inquisitorial models from there.
they're not cheap.
your 5 man box set comes with an incinerator trooper that you're frankly not going to use. meaning you waste a trooper and have to buy the psycannon one separately.
same with termies.
the kasrkin box that most people use for stormtroopers suffers from the same problem with a grenade launcher and flamer.
the base troops are pretty expensive points wise so you won't need a lot and the models aren't very good but they're not a good army if you're on a budget.
may i make a pitch for marines? or csm (no many daemons as they're expensive too)
i think necrons are pretty cheap too.
There is no such thing as a "cheap" 40k army. they're all expensive.
However, some are less expensive than others
DH (and by DH i mean primarly GK), is actually on the "less expensive" side of the spectrum.
They're not as bad as a horde army (ork/nid/ig etc)
but not as good as a SpaceMarine army.
GK indivudal models are expensive, but you don't need alot of them.
if you like GK, i'd go for em.
but if you're just looking for an inexpensive army, go marines.
Dh are inexpensive if you know what to buy. If you want to go really cheap, use regular cadians instead of kasrkin, you save 50$US if you buy 20. Grey knights are expensive, but also cost a ton of points, so you dont need many. However, if your like me and you buy alot of models that you never end up usiong, it could get expensive. Just know what you want in your army list before you buy it.
