So I'm lookin to start a new Imperial Guard Army since I've been playing SM/DH for a awhile now and thought it'd be good for a change. What's a good balance for an Army List that mostly plays against 'nids and Khornate Chaos? Any help you experience IG players can give would be most appreciative.
That's a hard list.
The problem is you'll be dealing with both MEq and horde, each of which requires fundamentally different special/heavy configurations to counter most effectively. Because both will try to close to assault you, you'll need to make your shooting as effective as possible to prevent that.
I'd say that you'd do best with masses of bodies, missile launchers (you get an AP3 hit or a template hit), and las/plas to deal with terminators/power armor/synapse creatures. And you cannot go wrong with as many Leman Russes as possible. The battle cannon will handle MEq and it will handle hordes.
EDIT: As an alternative, including a squad or two of GKs would rock on ice when fighting 'nid or chaos marines. If you have the models already, you might consider it as a way of deterring your opponent from closing to assault and buying more time for your shooters. GK will own the first waves of gaunts to reach your lines.
Yeah I was thinking a unit of GK would add some (expensive) punch to a list, plus I'm comfortable playing with em since I've been using GK and SM for a long while now. Thanks for the suggestions
ig freely summed it really well. however khoonate berserkers will be a bit of an issue due to there chain axes.the give you gks +4 armor save instead of+3

id agree not sending the GK to take on berserkers but count berserkers as a primary target for your heavy weapons or have a vet squad with 2 plasma guns sergt w/plasma and a lascannon should reduce there numbers quicklyOriginally Posted by jancz
