+Carries more troops
+Higher front armor
+Multi laser and hull mounted heavy bolter
-Weaker side armor
+Decent front and side armor
-No main weapons (compared to multi laser)
One of the main factors I think about too is Hunter-Killer Missiles. Seeing how DH lack anti armor, I feel they are necissary, but, the points seem worth it on the rhino with the higher BS rather than the chimera who hits on 4+.
I like the chimera because of its ability to hold 2 more troops. It can screen its troops a little safer with its higher front armor and rear access pointbut a rhino is more versitale with decent front and side armor.
I dunno, the chimera adds some nice ranged fire power with its multi lasrer, but the rhino is cheaper and you can use the points elsewhere.
I want to hear other people opinions and let me know if I'm forgeting some pros and cons.
I'm still relatively new to 40k and am just learning about vechiles and what they can do. Frankly, I like the chimera a lot form what I can see. It can put out some nice firepower, it helps alot with protecting your weaker units (henchmen and IST). Though, ya, the point cost hurts a lot.
As far as Hunter Killer Missles go I like fighting them onto my inducted IG sentinels. I put them on my chimera(s) if I need too for the added vehicle destruction because they are relatively cheap.
And for armor I haven't found Rhino armor to make THAT big of a differnce. I find if my enemy wants to destroy my vehicle he's usally using something that can do it quite easily.
If you are looking for a transport, go with the Rhino. Its got the weapon ports for anti-tank duty and looks less imposing on the field with only the storm bolter. Also, as opposed to the Chimera, it has armor that can deal with the small arms fire of most armies, except Tau, of course. It, as you both said, is cheaper, which is a big plus.
The Chimera, on the other hand, is perfect for fire-support units like Plasma equiped ISTs and support Inquisitors. If it's used, it should be stationary, or slowly advancing with the rest of the squad to make use of all of its weapons. It should not be pushed ahead of the rest of the line because of its lack of side armor.
As a general note, hunter-killers should probably not be used. They are pricey for the small chance that they might do anything. Also, all vehicles should be equipped with extra armor and searchlights, and transports and assault vehicles (like the LRC) should be equipped with smoke launchers.

i agree, i only use the chimera for mobile fire support in my own line. the only time i would see it loaded up with troops and moving is if i greatly outnumbered my enemy (ie DH) or i knew i was going to have an open flank to run up.
the rhino is far better at charging into the enemy with it's side armor, but it's still a tin can.
both tanks can pop their tops for the troops to shoot, but it makes them open topped, except only the guard seem to notice...however, if i remember correctly the rhino can pop two shooters, while the chimera can only pop one (with all those lasguns)
If you are moving your troops, the Rhino is MUCh better, as if you move 12" you can't shoot anyway. For the price, the Chimera is very good though. For 88pts, you get to fire two Heavy weapons, with decent range.

Well I believe the Rhino to be the best. although I only have a chimera, I feel its more of a tank than anything. I think transport should carry you from A to B safely, and with the Rhinos better armour and BS, thats handy.
It really depends. If you want a transport, go with the Rhino if you're going to go with anything. If you want a vehicle that can get a sizable number of models across the table and still provide a decent fire platform after depositng its cargo, take the Chimera. I'd take the Rhino, but that's just because I happen to own two Rhinos and no Chimeras.
Chimeras have a much broader range of customization. You can configure them for a wide range of tasks and this, in my opinion, gives them a big edge. You can fit the turret with heavy flamer, heavy bolter, autocannon, or multilaser. You can fit the hull with HB or HF. You can slap on a storm bolter or heavy stubber. And for ISTs you can have any special firing out the roof also (this advantage is even better with heavy weapons in regular guard Chimeras). That is a ridiculous amount of firepower out of a transport.
This is to say that a Chimera has equal or better options than a Rhino in regards to units firing out of it, but may additionally configure the turret, hull, and pintle slots for more shooty goodness.
The H-K missile thing is kind of a red herring, because they cost a fair amount of points regardless of what vehicle you slap them on. It doesn't make a strong case for the Rhino that an expensive weapon of marginal utility will hit 16% more often.
I use Rhinos for my ISTs because they're cheaper, less expensive (redundancy? I think not. 50 points and $30 US) and suit what I do. Transport. I sometimes use a shooty =][=, and he has a chimera (standard loadout, ML/H. Mostly, I like the Rhino.
A man's at odds to know his mind, for his mind is aught he has to know it with.
with the new rules i believe you can shoot from a rhino and a chimera even if it moves 12"
with marine rhinos, this makes them pretty dangerous as you can get two specials shooting to 12"
this doesn't help as much with the chimera, because you want to shoot and can't when you're running plus you count as open-topped, but i remember a time when a hive tyrant ripped off my big guns so my storm troopers popped the top as the chimera ran for dear life and they double-tapped their plasma guns and actually killed the tyrant as he chased them.
