if you took a marine army in 1000points and without a tank, would it work?
like have a librarium
couple of squads with rocket launchers
2 assualt amrine squads
and a devestator squad with rockets and lascannons
actually if you pay attention to the army lists, half of the 1000 point armies dont use tanks
if anyone finds avatar offensive just pm and i will change it
In fact, most marine armies fare better without tanks. The more tactical marines you have, the better. All-infantry marine armies are a real pain to face.
So don't waste points on tanks in 1000 pts, maybe a Dreadnought for some variation.
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
I prefer not to take tanks with my Space Marines, At most i use a Dreadnought & Razorback & i'm extremely hesitant to pull out the old LRC. The main reason being, tanks cost to many points & one lucky shot from a lascannon etc. can put them out of action. I much prefer to put my Faith in Infantry & SM have some of the best in the game.
"I'm gonna stomp 'em to dust. I'm gonna grind their bones. I'm gonna burn down dere towns and cities. I'm gonna pile 'em up inna big fire and roast 'em. I'm gonna bash 'eads, break faces and jump up and down on da bits dat are left. An' den I'm gonna get really mean."
The noly tank i ever use in less than 2000 points is my trusty vindicator, and i use that no matter what. Instead i take the cheaper and more versital dreadnaught.
Back from a long adventure.
Depends on what you mean by "tank" if you mean land raiders or predators I wouldn't, although a predator can sometimes be a good option if you know they'll be lacking high strength weapons.
I'll sometimes debate using a whirlwind, but that really depends on what I'm fighting.
If by "tank" you mean "vehicles" I'd personally would say bad idea. Just because I love land speeders so much.
I'd also think about switching the librarian out with a chaplain and putting him in an assault squad. But then again I love chaplains a lot too.
With tactical squads with rockets, and then devastators with rockets and las cannons you have a lot of anti armor. I'd personally opt to put the lascannons in the tactical squads (they cost less). Or think about maybe a heavy bolter which are cheap anyway.
Again with the anti armor, think about what you are fighting. If you're fighting marines or something with a lot of armor it's a good idea. Otherwise think about either landspeeders or some heavy bolters, either of which chew through infantry. If you're fighting eldar you're better off with heavy bolters as odds are you won't even want to begin the hassle of trying to take down a wave serpant, let alone a falcon.
In a 1000 points game the only tank I use is a deep striking dreadnought because they are too good to be ignored. In a 1500 points game I also use a predator because I play BT and the army list I use has way less anti-armour if I don't use the predator.
The predator is also a good fire magnet. it's one of the most important things on the battlefield and most of the time I'm lucky with the dice rolls.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
I would only use landspeeders or dreadnaughts in 1000 point army
Whatever you do, DONT take a Landraider in a 1000 pt army.
Most useless thing you could get.
Oh yes, it could decimate your enemy's army. But you can lose 1/4 of you army in 1 SHOT.
Don't take ANY type of landraider. Take 3 Whirlwinds instead (except if you are facing other marines, CSM, or any other high armoursaves.)
