They would basically be a veteran squad that have decided to use their skills for just about anyone who pays them. I'm planning to use the non-kasrkin Stormtrooper models, but with the hellguns replaced with ones veterans are allowed to have. What do you think? And would it be possible for there to be a privately owned security company within the Imperium?
Of a sorts, yes..Originally Posted by IGAirborneRanger
Companies don't really exist in the Imperium, I'm pretty sure. It's a feudal system, there's no real spirit of free enerprise.. most people just serve someone else.
But there is freelance muscle, certainly. The inquisitor desperados are designed to reflect just this kind of thing. Also, there are wealthy and powerful people in the Imperium, like rogue traders, who can afford to pay a lot of money to get good quality soldiers.
The main problem I can see is the idea of ex-guardsmen altogether. I'm not sure how long a guard tour of duty is, but I'm pretty sure from the fluff I've read it runs into the decades, not merely years. These guys would probably be approaching middle age, at least, unless they were discharged for some other reason. An alternative would be to make them PDF.. Since PDF don't leave their homeworlds often and don't see quite as much action, they seem much more likely to be able to retire.
They might not have to have retired, they could have been a former squad and just deserted. This would give them a reason to have all the IG tech. they have.
