Hey guys, being a Catholic and all I hate playing an army that worships a dead guy in a Gold Coffin. So, my Chapter (Angels Incarnate) is going back to its roots and worshiping the God that they want to worship. I don't see why Chapters can't have their own religious beliefs, sure my chapter still regards the emperor as the unifier of the human race and as a phenominal leader and visionary. The inquisition can go suck a lemon, we are still deathly loyal to the emperor but we don't pray to him or offer our daily activities to him. I have a few reasons to support this change for you people who are obsessd with criticizing "unfluffy fluff".
First of all the emperor is not a god nor will he ever be. The fact that he is incased in a sarcophagous that keeps him alive goes to show he isnt a god, therefore shouldnt be worshipped. Take him out of his life box and make him do 1 on 1 combat with a veteran termie and see who lives. That is if the emperor can even stand up. The empeoror is a great guy and a phenominal person in humanity's history but has no right to take away fundemental rights and freedoms of a normal human being. Such as, if a person on a planet says that the emperor is not a god what happens? BYE BYE PLANET!!! Thats just stupid like come on, sounds alot like war crimes to me.
Secondly, humans' have a fundemantal need for religion and will not follow something that they know is not true. Even space marines with psycho conditioning turned against the emperor, but they are still triatiors and should all burn under the feet of my dreadnoughts. However I'm not turning against the emperor I'm just voicing my religious beliefs. My chapter worships the God that christians believed in during the 2nd mellenium but still follow the rule of the Emperor with all zeal and streength that they hold. However, my marines also have a nice little implant that gives them moral principles. So they will not do anything that the "moral implant" deems not right (ie. massacaring millions of innocent people becuase someone dissed the inquisition).
And thirdly, why not? Its about time this game got interesting and brought somehting original into it. Go ahead, call me a traitor call me a heretic I don't care. The Imperium can either accept my chapters religious beliefs or waste precious rescources and other chapters marines hunting down a chapter that just wants some freedom. If that is the case then my fellow brothers of the Imperium are lost and I will not fight unless i am called. I still serve the emperor and will bring death to all those who opose his rule with the power of God as my aid.
"Death to the enemies of the Imperium and may the light of God shine on our emperor for all eternity"
Kalon Markus adressing the Angels Incarnate at the battle of Opius IV
(I will be posting more detailed fluff about my chapter in the fluff section later this month)

Unfourtunately, there isn't really a middle ground on this issue, either a space marine recognizes the emperor as his god or he is a heretic. Also, those marines that decided to worship a god other than the emperor? That would be the chaos. Really, whose to say that the Emperor isn't a son of god, people worship jesus and they don't get called unreligious.
Take life seriously, its lethal.
Page 96 of the 4th edition rulebook, read the little black box on the Space Marine Chaplains. The Space Marines do not worship the Immortal Emperor as if he were a god.
Well then I guess I'm a renegade chapter. Not chaos, just a renegade chapter thats sick of all the beuricratical bull. Long live the Angels incarnate. And the black box only says that space marines do not worship his as a god but the Ecliasarchy doesand this has caused much conflict. But the ecclisiastarchy says he is so thats what I'm going against and worshiping God. However, unlike Choas, God doesnt destroy whole worlds and summon daemons from all over the universe. If anything, he's helping keep the Imperium in order.

Who cares if its unfluff wise, half the armys i have seen are completely unfluffy. Do what you want and who cares how unfluffy it is. Oh and for all you sayign its not fluffwise the SM don't "worship" the SM. Like one of the blood angels chapters (or all) worship Sanguianis over the emperor.
Back from a long adventure.
We recognize the greatness of the Emperor, but know that there is a Supreme Being greter than him. The Emperor was the greatest man that ever lived aside from Jesus, therefore, serving him, we serve humanity, which God created, therefore we are defending that which God created.

Oh man you are really going to annoy RJsuperfreaky! He keeps making threads about how it drives him crazy when people do this
Not to diss your religion or anything (I was raised Catholic myself) but I thought all of the old religions had died out even before the Emperor united humanity? The history of the Imperium and the time preceding it seems to bear no resemblance to the earth we know today. I mean it's what? 30-40000 years in the future? They didn't even call earth "earth" anymore back then.
But assuming that some Catholics did survive 30 000 years (bearing in mind that no culture that exists now was around anything like 30 000 years ago) and colonized a planet, how did they then survive the Emperor recapturing all of the human worlds? And why did he choose to make them into space marines if they were essentially refusing to be part of his empire in the first place by worshipping their own God?
I just think it's a bit hard to swallow. It's only a game, I don't see why you should be offended by the behaviour of imaginary people and have to twist it all to fit your real-world faith.
Then again it's only a game so do what you find fun I guess
I think it is perfectly fine for the space marines to worship god. I also think that it adds lots of charecter to your army. Go ahead, I think it's time people stopped worshiping corpses.
Most SM chapter believe that, while a great man, the emporer was/is just a man. While they certainly honor him, they tend not to worship him as an outright god, which give the Inquisition grief to no ends . Your idea about them worshipping the god of our understanding today would probably be deemed heretical. But, if you want it, go ahead, It's called fluff for a reason.;First of all the emperor is not a god nor will he ever be. The fact that he is incased in a sarcophagous that keeps him alive goes to show he isnt a god, therefore shouldnt be worshipped.
1500 years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the Universe
500 years ago everybody knew the world was flat
5 minutes ago you knew humans were alone on the planet
Imagine what you'll know tomorrow
O_O no! no no no no no!not this again! i'm sorry but a Space Marine worships the Emperor, end of story, if they dont they're considered heretics and traitors and they get nuked by the big =I=
the alternatives are either going into hiding and that whole renegade schitck or to repent and go on crusade
I HAVE SPOKEN!!!
