Again the Tau use thier jump packs to jump out from behind the forest and lay firepower enough to kill an entire guar d squad. Before the Guardsmen can turn around to meet the new foe the Tau are gone gliding back behind the forest, like a mirage, out of Guard crosshairs again. This happened to me repeatingly during a gamewith a Tau player who uses jetpacking Crises Battlesuits and Bodyguards. He would set up his suits behind cover lay waste to my Guardsmen, Assualt Missle Launcher, then jump right back behind cover and out of firing range. I brought a Balsisk to draw his men out but it was destroyed earlier. How can I get the Tau to abandon their safety and fight a clean battle?
...And they shall fear the lasgun
This has happened to me aswell. You just have to take the fight to them. Either they fight back or they run away until the run into LoS. Mortars should work though.
"DICE FOR THE DICE GOD!"
And the almighty Dice God said to his followers "Thou shalt not speak ye words "anything but a one" For thou whoever'st speaketh this blasphemy will be cursed with thy rolls being of one".
Yeah the sometimes the mortars work but mortar does not negate the Battlesuits save and usually the suits are equipped with protector drones so by the time I kill the drones most of my army is already wiped out.
This is what I advise.
Keep the pressure on, make sure that he never thinks that this piece of forest terrain means I get some respite from shooting...no...You use that to calculate the distance for your mortars. You can even sneak measure the distance to main scenery you see as being viable "jump-out" terrain. Once he hides anywhere...you'll have him with your mortars.
Then: Outmanouver (sounds mad yes?) him and try to get your hvy. weapon guardsmen in juicy fire positions. Try to harass him in places where the 'ol "jump, shoot, jump back" just won't work (due to terrain, units etc.).
Start playing it like chess...You move here...he moves there...you move units up there...now if he tries to do the 'ol jump 'n shoot he'll expose himself to your other units.
Also, basilisks, mortars and...I think...Griffons? (don't have my codex here). Can all lay down devestating barrages. So use it! Kick that Tau ass! Infiltrate or deep strike some Stormtroopers and take the fight to him!
But remember...never let him think he's safe...wherever he hides...he'll get shot at. And the mortars aint so bad once you mass them together.
Good luck in your next battle General...and remember: Courage, Duty...and Honor! (and ofcourse hordes of men with lasguns...but we keep that silent. :shifty: )

I personally think that you just need to give the Basilisk another try. Make sure that it is well hidden behind cover such as a building or forest so that he can't see it, and then pound him to hell.
I like the Basilisk so much that I just bought two more to put in my army. I think that using 2-3 of them will really help against armies that like to hide from my heavy weapons until the last moment.
I have to warn you, though, that three basilisks will usually be accompanied by cries of "Cheese!" from your opponents. Especially Dark Eldar who totally rely on hiding behind terrain until they are ready to pounce on you like a rabid cat on catnip.
In addition to some of the weapon options available (and I would recommend mortars and Basilisks), try some of the doctrines. Light infantry can infiltrate. Jungle Fighters can see through 12" of terrain and infiltrate into woddland or jungle and get a 4+ cover save also in woodland/ jungle, increasing your survival rate considerably. Sharpshooters get to re-roll 1's to hit, so making what shots you do fire more likely to hit. Cameleoline also improves your cover save, helping your surviveability.
On another note, as I am NO expert on this, does the see through 12" of terrain as a jungle fighter also allow you to fire through 12" of terrain? I do not play IG, so it has not come up before. If you can, then that should wheedle out a few skulkers!
use concripts with flamers and a Griffons (if you are willing to cough up enough money for it and the respective imperal armor book) to get him out and stormtroopers with meltaguns to deep strike behind the hiding units
