It's a really cool model, and a very powerful unit. I like him for many reasons, but don't use him all the time for a couple reasons, first I proxy for him occasionally just for fun because my resources are currently stretched in other places. Also he's doesn't seem to always be worth it, depends on the opponet, which is why I don't buy one right away and use him all the time.

I use one maybe 1/3 of the time. I plan to use him more, paired off with a cleanse and purify melta squad. He has a Servo-Harness, so that makes it 2 melta's, 1 plasma pistol, 1 flamer and whatever the serge has.

I think the techmarine is a waist of points unless you use it as where it is used to be: a repair model for your tanks. he cost a lot of points and a what you get is an marine that can repair vehicles and has an powerfist. now my army has 2 armour value models and one of these is always found on the main line while my predator is standing still and is shooting his lascannons.

also if you use him for the fire servator these are not worth is to because you pay around 70/80 points per squad plus the techmarine this becomes a very expensive 4+ squad.

I will be fielding a techmarine commander in my iron hands army. I'm gonna march him up alongside my dreadnoughts. That, extra armor, smoke launchers and venerable(ity) as well as fire support from my servitors will hopefully keep my dreadnoughts alive....for a while.

Techmarines are fantastic models but for the 100+ points you need to field one, you can get another vehicle instead so the repair ability is sort of wasted (why repair a dreadnought/whirlwind/etc when you can just have 2?).

Fire support-wise, I would rather field a dev squad. The signum is good if you are using a plasma cannon, but since you are paying dev. squad prices for your weapons, you may as well get the 3+ saves IMO.

And artificer armour, and a plasma pistol, a flamer and a bolt weapon (I pay the extra point for a pistol, rather than stick with the bolter). Oh and extra wounds, a reroll for the squad and a power axe (wonderful when combined with the servo-harness, essentially he has up to 6 attacks split between a power weaon and a power fist. 7 with terminator honours). All this for just over 101 points doesn't seem a waste to me.

I picked up the model because it's just too nifty to leave it all sad and lonely on the shelf. However, I've yet to be able justifying playing it except for the look. The 'marines primary job is to just sit around on my desk looking cool, and the servitors are likely to find a home in an Inquisitor retinue somewhere.
