We all know how little anti armor DH has. Well, today I was wondering, how much in enough? How much is too little???
My normal 1500 point army has 2 dreadnaughts, both with TLL's and DCCW's with smoke and extra armor, this comes out to be a little more than a land raider.
Now, a Landraider has 2 TLL's and much better armor.
Would it be better to use the landraider knowikng that my TLL's will last longer?
Would I keep using the 2 dreads because they can fight and target seperate targets?
Also, I was wondering what people use for anti armor themselves.
Well they have their ups and down:
2 Krak Missles
2 TLLC POMS-they told me to use new space marines rules
But Land Raider's get targeted a LOT more than Dread's.
I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight... razor... and surviving.
There's a long thread on this. Search to DH forum for it. It may be enlightening.
A man's at odds to know his mind, for his mind is aught he has to know it with.
I think in a GK army, they both draw a lot of fire, because any good opponent knows thats where your heavy weapons with good ap are. Anytime I use my CSM agaisnt my buddies GK, the 2 dreads he brings or the LR are my priority targets. Once they go down he is done for. So my tanks and havocs go after the dreads, and my oblits with meltas go after the LR. Once we played a high enough point game where he brought 2 dreads and the LR, and they all died in the same turn.
I would probably recomend the 2 dreads over the LR in most games just cause they are two targets, and with the smoke launchers they do have some staying power. Best thing to do with either choice is to use them for what they excel at. Drawing fire. Let your opponet fixate on them then dump a bunch of termies and fa gk in their lap and run their day.
Don't forget though that your stormie squads can be equipped with spec weps with good ap. So not all your heavy firepower has to be tied up in dreads and LRs. Like I said let em focus on the heavies and pop em with plas guns and meltas from those stormies he forgot about.
Instead of a LR I find that a LRC is much for effective for its price. It's only 10₧ more and it has the same armor, same anti-tank (just less range), better transporter, looks cooler, and guys that assault out of it are considered carrying frag grenades which is much needed for our termies. The only thing a LRC is less effective at destroying is a Monolith but against Necrons, a unit of termies can wipe their entire army out because of their lack of low ap.

I find 2 dreads with assault cannons to be much better against enemy armour than TLLC dreads or Land raiders. They have rending so they can get through enemy armour above 12 easy enough seeing as they have 4 shots each .
That's my best anti-armour. That and psycannons for the smaller stuff (buggies, jetbikes etc), but the AC dreads do well agianst them too. You have more chance of hitting and wounding with 4 shots with a rending weapon than one shot with a TLLC I think.

Even then, agains AV 14 you still gotta rol a 2 to glance, 3 to pen.
Assault cannon suck at hitting heavy armor (AV 12-14). I mean it's a shot in hell, and often you might as well take the shot, but DON'T count on it.
I would not take a LRC for a 1500 point army (maybe 2000). It draws too much attention and can "easily" be taken out (meaning the cost of doing so isn't as high).
Rather would go the dreadnought route. At least 1 with dual Lascan (other may have Autocan instead). And for Anti-Armor go with IG augentees (either inducted or allied).
Plus if you give a Termie a Thunderhammer it does extremely well against armor, although it does go last.
