i've read alot here about the bonuses of using a vox system, and i whole-heartedly agree that they are a tremendous help in keeping your lines held. my friends however, insist on playing smaller and smaller games, so i pose this question unto you, whose wisdom and experience surpasses my own. at what size games does the vox network really become practical. what i mean to say is, what would you classify as too small a total to really support that kind of point-sink. currently we're playing 1000pts, but i fear they may grow smaller:rolleyes:.
thanks in advance
its the only way to get a good 9 leadership to most of your troops, and its cheaper than taking a vet. serg. They also look cool. Always a reason to take them.
If you get down to only a couple units, drop the master voxes.
Wow! I can't believe any one but Drop Troop Armies use Voxes or Master Voxes!
I always keep my guys in formation thus the leadership is always 9. As in 12" away rom my SR officer or my Platoon LT with the medal that makes him have lr9
Through in a standard bearer in my command squad and that's a reroll of 9.
Except of course for units that can use an officer lr like Ratlings, Riders, and Kroot.
I would only use a vox or master vox if I played 1500+ of drop troops or 2000+ of IG and even then I doubt it.
However with a High commander your crazy not to use voxes.
I'd say the 1000-1500 pt range is the grey area for me, anything under 1000pts would be all vet sarges and over 1500pt would probably be a big vox network. but I think its really more dependent on if you play an infantry heavy army or a tank heavy army. the more infantry you have the better using the vox system is for two reasons
1) as stated its a better deal the more units you have pts wise
2) as you get more and more squads on the board keeping them all within 12 in of an officer isnt practical
if you are using an HSO or a JO w HI then the extra vox cost is probably worth it for the increase in ld.
generally i play 4-5 line squads per 1000points, although i am considering changing my armor to infantry ratio. at my current configuration its 50pts for the total vox net. is this enough squads to merit the points?
Its not really the point size that would be the issue, but rather, how many units you have, and/or if your units will be advancing far from your HQ such as an harden vet squad, or stormtrooper squad. but if you have a bunch of units that are not moving and are just sitting and firing then dont pay for voxes, since you have several officers and they can use their leadership, but if you have a ton of squads then use the master vox, and hide your HQ
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.
IMO Master Vox/Vox is only worth it if you can take a Commissar and get LD10 transferring through your HSO. LD 9 from a Vox isn't as important when you can get LD9 with C.O.D. and a Vet Sgt, or use a JO and Iron Discipline ( a very good doctorine. ).
I don't want to make this another "does the Leadership bonus from the Commissar pass through the Vox" thread. We have beat that one to DEATH!

I use a Heroic Senior officer together with a regimental standard in my HQ, together with Iron Discipline of course. That's one ld9 bubble with rerolls near that squad, however, my first command squad is often a JO with honorifica imperialis and iron discipline. Another ld9 bubble. Enough to fit all my men under that, unless I field more infantry than I usually do.
In cases where I'll use alot of infiltrators, chimera mounted or deepstrikers I sometimes give the two commands squads I mentioned earlier vox casters and run a partial voxnet for the squads that won't be within 12" of the officers, because it is my experience that master vox is rarely used more than twice per turn, and then two regular vox casters with ld9 officers is just as good.
OK now I thought I knew this stuff but now I am wondering.
Are you sure the +1LR of a commisar is carried through the Vox other modifiers aren't in the older 3rd edition faqs for the new codex it said it was simply the lr 9 of a SO that would carry through the Vox / Master Vox
If your SO has Iron discipline and a squad regroups via Vox can they regroup below 50% or does it have to be there specific leader that has ID.
If you have a Commisar and a test with a vox fails does he execute his SO and they count as holding?
