So I finally got my copy of Imperial Armour 3 and checked out the Elysian Drop Troop list. I like how they could use Demo charges, Lasguns w/ grenade launchers, and veterans troops w/ sniper rifles. But I'd rather use doctrines other than the ones the 23rd Elysian Drop troops are supposed to use. And I'd rather have an IG drop troop regiment with my own fluff.
Now, do you think it would be alright to have an IG drop troop created from the standard IG codex but have troops equiped with some wargear from the Elysian list? Also according to the IA 1 FAQ, the Valkryie is a transport option for drop troop infantry squads, would this include veteran squads or can only ELYSIAN vets take valkyries?
well if where yer playing accepts chapter approved and forgeworld stuff...
using the elysian rules with regular guard models would be ok where i usually play. BUT it would be all elysian rules and restricitions. so if mixing elysians with some stuff they don't have from the regular IG codex.. i'd say no. it's like if i were to use my armoured company list (chapter approved) and say i wanted ratlings or ogryns in an elite slot.
when i want to use ratlings or ogyrns i use my regular guard codex rules. so that means command squad(s),infantry platoons, grenediers, access to regular IG vehicles and all that jazz.
It's only the opinion of myself and people i play against i guess BUT the regular IG codex is for regular IG. Armoured Company and Elysians are seperate more specialized options outside of the regular codex.
depends on who you play against. if you can draw from different codexes to make new codex (which sounds like what you are proposing **UNLESS there's something in elysian rules saying they can induct/ be inducted**) than your opponent should be able to have advanced notice and be able to draw from different rules including forgewrold and chapter approved.
I don't think it's possible, because if it was then regular guard should be able to take Armoured Company Doctrines and Armoured Companies could take regular guard ones.
So I'd say no. They're two different armies and can't be mixed.
I agree. Mixing the two shouldn't be allowed.
It'd be like giving space marines Grenade Launchers and Heavy Stubbers to their tanks.
I play Elysians and I can tell you, taking the Elysian weapons in a 'normal' IG list would be terribly overpowered.
A demo charge in every squad... the ability to deep strike the demo charges anywhere on the board... AND your own choice of docterines (Carapace armour of course)? AND Lascannon heavy weapon platoons? AND tanks? That my friend is the IG army of doom.
If you only want a Valkyrie, most IG armies can take them, if you want Elysian infantry, then to be fair you need to take the drawbacks as well as the benefits, which means you play with the Elysian docterines/army list.
As per the Q&A on the FW site, Valkyries are transport options for:
- Storm Trooper Squads
- Inquisitorial Storm Troopers
- Inquisitor Lords
- Drop Troop Infantry Squads
- Tarantula Turrets
- Cyclops Demolitions Vehicle
So you can take as many as you have squads for... you just can't take Krak Lasguns and Leman Russes in the same army

I have Elysian models, enough for at least a 3000 point army. But 'fluffwise' I don't want them to be Elysians. I want them to be a regiment with their own backstory and doctrines of my choice.Originally Posted by NTFH
Okay, so does Drop Troop Infantry Squads INCLUDE veteran squads? I mean, why should the regular foot soldiers get such a vehicle and not the elite veterans who've earned the right to pretty much choose any weapons they want?Originally Posted by Harbish
Also, how bout using the Elysian Drop Troop army list/rules word for word BUT giving my army a different name, backstory, etc? Sigh, so much for one missle launcher team and one demo charge in every infantry squad. Ah well, I can always dream or get my oppenents really drunk.
1- Yes in a Drop Troops list Veterans can take Valkyries.Originally Posted by IGAirborneRanger
2 - That's exactly what I've done, my army is the Elysian 24th, instead of the Elysian 23rd. *SPOILER HIGHLIGHT* Ruleswise they're exactly the same, but unlike the 23rd they're not all dead... *END SPOILER*
My regular line squad config is 7 troopers, 1 vox operator, 1 demo charge & 1 Plasma gunner. 87 points of deep striking killyness.

I mean we clearly have non-cadian IG regiments featured in the IG codex using cadian models (or speaking fluffwise, gear), so I don't see why there can't be another drop troop regiment from another planet with similar gear and doctrines.
Btw Harbish, how's your modern British army themed Elysians going? Also, why not make up your own planet and regiment as well instead of making your army just another Elysian Regiment? Just a thought.
