Hi everyone have just boought the terminator boxset and just wanted some advice as to what to arm them with , and what wargear to give them ??.
Everyone raves about assault cannon and cyclone missle launcher's are they best ??
Any ideas and advice i would be grateful.
Assault Cannon are excellant. Pesonaly I dont like the CycML. Its a ML which is bad in my book and you could get annother Assault Cannon. Heavy Flamers never seem to get used(there are reasons for this) though 1 in a drop pod squad can work.
In summary Assault Cannon.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
I myself do not own Terminators at this point, but when I move my army from 1000pt to 1500pt I most likely will. Back to your question...I find that arming two of you termies with the Assualt Cannon works the best (the maximum number of ACs you can have). By adding the CML, it obviously adds another attack to the unit which can be beneficial, but it adds to the already expensive cost per unit. For 240pts, you can have a 5 man squad consisting of 1 sarge, 2 termies with SB/PF, and 2 termies with AC/PF. This seems to work the best I find (not in my experience but I have seen others and have had people tell me that this works very well. Keep in mind though that the point cost will go up adding CMLs and ACs and you probably don't want to have a large point cost termie squad in a low point game. Hope that helps!Originally Posted by athryalseer
Assault cannons are beautiful.
I can read now!
once in range Assault cannons are better at taking out tanks than CML, its getting them there thats the problem.
Heavy flamers have their uses though, like toasting 8 kroot and 3 fire warriors in one shot
mmmm i love the smell of napalm in the morning

Hi there. As a Deathwing Veteran, I have dealt with Terminators for a few years.
Since the Plastic set only comes with 1 of each heavy weapon, I suggest buying 2 boxes, and having two 5-man squads, one with 2 assault cannons, the other wih 2 cyclones.
Now, as for Assault cannons being better than cyclones at tank bustings, you should consider that Cyclones have double the range of Assault cannons and are guaranteed to hit the tanks before the ACs.
Here's my tactica, I hope you find it useful.
Hi everyone and thanks for the useful comments.Really helped.Matt
As Ezekial notes, both the Assault Cannon and the CML are great weapons with unique purposes in a terminator squad. Assault Cannons are awesome for the wreaking of nuts havoc in the infantry lines of nearly any opponent. This includes Space Marines. This was true of Assault Cannons even before their upgrade in 4th Edition, but the new profile of the AC makes it even more true now.
CML on the other hand are much more universally effective against both armour and infantry. Although AC can be useful against armour, they require a relatively lucky sequence of events to gain that effectiveness. CML's have the ability to fire Krak missles, which can bust most any tank easily, especially with a side armour shot. They can also fire frag missles, which can take out a number of individual infantrymen. The main benefit of this weapon comes from the relative ranges. AC's can only strike from 24". Although anything within that range will know it has been nudged, it will also be able to strike back more than likely. A CML has a range of 48". This give it a MINIMUM of 2 extra strikes over the Assault Cannon. With the ability to bust tanks, these can easily account for more points than an AC.
As has been discussed many times by Chaosbrynn, Heavy Flamers are of extremely limited function in any walking unit. The template for flamers is less than 8" long, and as a result will likely only get a single shot before being assaulted. Although being assaulted isnt such a problem for termies, id rather see more use out of a heavy weapon than 1 shot every so often. Im not going to deny that its very satisfying to see enemy units evaporate under napalm, but satisfaction doesnt make up for effectiveness in my book.
I would recommend either 2 5 person squads with a single type of heavy weapon as Ezekial recommended, or if you cant afford 2 squads in your army, consider one squad with one of both the CML and the AC. THis will give you a significant punch in your termie squad.
The odds of 2 AC killing a tank is greater than that of 2 CML. The AC does everything the CML does and it does it better for less points. If you ever feel the urge to fire frag missiles then the 8 str 6 ap 4 shots will kill far more of most light infantry. The range differences are really the only advantage of the CML and this is easily negated by the terminators ability to walk forwar and shoot. You get to deploy the terminators nearthe end, do you can respond to most threats and ceploy directly across from them, and have range 1st or 2nd turn. When playing terminators try your best to get a pair of AC on them, they are the best weapon the marines have and should be used in copious amounts.Originally Posted by Lord_Wallace
Take life seriously, its lethal.
What tank are you talking about though. An assault cannon is only more likely to kill a tank if it has armor 12 or more (trust me, i did math). And with cyclones you can start on the table, and get several shots in from really long range. Your probobly more likely to kill a tank with a cyclone than an assault cannon, becuase your going to get more shots that hit with the cyclone. But if your killing infantry then your more likely with an assault cannon. And most tanks are around armor 12-13 on the front, but thats why your range 48, so you can hit them in the side.
Back from a long adventure.
