How effective are walking Grey Knights? It seems plausible with Shrouding, and a couple of Psycannons to loosen up your targets ahead of time.
What have been your results for those who have tried it?
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
I usually have about 2 walking GK squads...And I love 'em! Of course I only play marines or MeQs usually, so i have little experience with other armies. The SM and CSM have trouble with all my wonderful stormbolters. I never use psycannons, unless im playing nids(maybe) or chaos. In my opinion, the psycannons are only worth their points when you are playing an opponent with only an invul save. Generally, I play with alot of terrain when im with my friends, so DSing usually isnt worth the risk, and walking the gks isnt bad since i never put them in line of sight of great Ap3 weaponry. I prefer to walk my gks, and only DS when the situation is favorable. Shrouding only really helps against those 48" devastating weapons.
I agree with Julius for the most part - the Shrouding isn't very dependable as a form of defence unless you're dealing with 48" weaponry.
I also say that psycannons are a no-no for walking GK - when moving, as they always should be, the psycannons will only be 18" range, for quite a high cost.
Rarely do I find that walking GK pay for themselves. They won't get into assault with decent unit strength on large tables, and really, thats what they're for. DSing or transported GK is the way to go, imo.
Yeah, all of my GK a) DS or b) stay put and blast the crap out of anything within 36" (i love purgation squads!).
On a side note, my Purg. Squad was obscenely expensive!! $50!! Good thing I had store credit from 40K night admission... it's $5 to participate, but you get $5 store credit, so it all works out.
A man's at odds to know his mind, for his mind is aught he has to know it with.
As far as a squad of Grey Knights not being effective marchers, you guys are right the squad is hooped, course, if you do it my way and have 5 full squads of them then things may end up different! Throw in 2 dreads and a Small Termie + HQ and you have a nasty 120~ shots a turn, and you can even assault after unleashing all this!
Course, I'm just the Crazy Orange Grey Knight guy, and thus my views are mostly lost on the sane.
PS: Diggums, I'll send you a PM soon with the links to my pics!
I agree Gks shouldnt walk, I used them in a 1k along with my LRC yes a LRC! 4 Gks including a justicar got blowing away by a Bolt of Change, Yeah I learned that it takes a turn for a Psycannon Gk to "catch up" with the others
I guess iam just the crazy LRC guy!
