im looking for a counter assault unit for my ig. and i was wondering what is good. i have heard nothing but bad thingd about ogryns so whats left rought riders???? allied grey knights?? i was wondering what is best used for tieing up enemies in cc?
thnx for help in advance
Allied grey knight termies . Theyre hard as, and deep strike them for a NASTY surprise for your opponents. prob the best cc unit that imperial guard could ever get their hands on.

Rough Riders wouldn't be a bad choice. Their lances are pretty nice.
Rough Riders are nice to have around, because they're real cheap and the lance is a nasty surprise. But you can also feel free to give them some melta bombs to make them good for charging tanks as well

Iv always put my hand up for rough riders. Explodey Lances are all good.
A Murder Is Only An Extraverted Suicide.....
terminators admitadley are rock hard, but they cost soo much that everyone will be aiming their ray guns '0 death at em. rough riders seem okay hmm? is it possible to make the hq a decent cc squad
I second allied GKs, allied Deathwatch, or rough riders. Flamers are also a good counterassault unit.
Rough Riders... I love these guys... A unit of ten Rough Riders can crush a squad of Space Marines easily... Exploding lances are the way to go...
And no, it's not possible to make a decent CC unit out of your HQ.. IG officers are not designed to run around charging things... they'll be killed... IG officers are good for leadership purposes only IMO...
I agree that rough riders are awesome. Conscripts are also a great deal for their price. I think that the way to go with the guard is a massive unit of mediocre conscripts, topped off with some amazing hunting lanced rough riders.
GKs and ogryn are too pricey, and don't fit in with the guard style, IMO. The enemy is always searching for something worth shooting lascannons at, so why make it easy for them?
