As this is my first post (after hours of searching for another post on my subject) I thought I'd say hello to start with.
I am wanting to create my own chapter of space marine but am a little stuck when it comes to actually creating it.
I have the idea that the vetrans and sergents wear robes etc and well am unsure how to create the rules...
Personally I would use the rules mixed from Dark Angels and Blood Angels; but that is not allowed.. So I am now stuck.
I have the name for the Chapter
Which are painted with Red Gore and then Highlighted with blood red. The Helmets of Sergents wear robes)and Vet Sergents are have black helmets and wear robes... HQ Characters will wear Black armour and robes... (going to convert Fabious Bile and Azreal)
Any idea what things that I need to put into the chapter to make it viable in a GW Tournament or in the rules in general.
1) Buy the Space Marine Codex. It has rules for creating chapters with variances so that you can have advantages/disadvantages to distinguish your chapter. This will give you all the rules you need.
2) Model them and paint them up however you like.
Voila, there's your new chapter.

Unfortuatley you cannot mix and match like that. Either you use the trait system in the space marine codex to make your own chapter, or you use the rules from a chapter like BA, DA, or SW, and make a "sucessor chapter." What you cannot do however is say take intractable from the dark angels, add a death company from the blood angles, and throw in true grit from the space wolves, then add vows from the balck templars. Not gonna happen. GW give certain chapters special rules and abilities to make them stand out. Sorry, but ni mixing and matching.Originally Posted by darphnugget

A blood angel / dark angel mix dressed up like templars sounds cool
Id take the trait that grants you Furious charge, and perhaps the tank hunters trait.
That would give you the ferocity of the blood angels with the shooty-ness of the dark angels.
Also you might want to look into the new Templar box sets, they are comign out with some fairly cool robes and weapons that shoudl fit your army well.
Just a few ideas.
You could just use the Black Templars codex as-is since it doesn't really restrict shooting. You could have shooty tactical squads (crusader squads). They might occasionally advance then they take casualties but that's just characterful
Add some assault squads for some CC punch and take a suitable vow for the champion (modelled as a commander) and you're done.
See my problem is this, you have clear ideas on look - fine!
But you dont seem to have clear ideas oon how you want them to play, you need to decide on a style that is comfortable and then maybe we can help you
Your chapter sounds cool so far.
What Cher said is true.So how do you want your army to be?Shooty,assaulty,balanced,defensive???
Any ideas on which units you really want to take or are fluffy to your army?

Dark angels are an excellent choise, if I say so myself (but I'm biased )
They have some great rules (like not falling back from taking casualties), and the deathwing terminators just rock
