is it worth the points to give my chaplain lightning claws instead of his power weapon. this gives me no plasma pistol attack on BS5 but let me re-roll failed to hit.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
hm....pretty risky to ark him with a plasma pistol, plus, he'll prob only get one shot at a opponent in the game. Id say take the lighting claws, cause rerolling is wayyyy better than risking a probable one-use plasma pistol. Power weapons are good, but u gotta admit...lighting claws look alot cooler:tongue:

personally I would say no, you already got re rolsl to hit on the turn you charge, but then personnaly I stick with a BP for the chappy too.
I do it all the time on my Termiantor chaplain, because I believe that if ou make a model expensive, you might as well make him as deadly as possible (plus he joins Assault termies with Lightning claws).
I can't wait until the new DA codex, you will be able to give Termy COMMAND squads lightning claws, so the character will get furious charge as well (and oyu can throw in an assault cannon or two).
Im with Chere.
Adding lightning claws to a chaplain often makes them more expensive then their effectiveness. The only reason I would do this, is if my main oponents used many high toughness models. Otherwise stick with the crozius and the bolt pistol.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I'm in the no camp as well. Chaplains are great because they already come with decent gear, invunerable save, power weapon and all that, adding things are just replacing gear that's included in the point cost. It's inefficient spending in some extent. If you want something to have lightning claws give them to a commander and put him with the chaplain or give them to some vet sarges or something.
I personally used a master with terminator armour and master crafted lightning claws, he was a bit on the expensive side but a combat nightmare. Lightning claws can be great weapons but they're expensive and often times a power weapon or power fist could do the job just as well.
I can read now!
you have got to have a plasma pistols on the chaplain. Do you have any idea how many people that the plasma frys? In a command squad or assualt squasd with a few other plasmas he can take out so many men before you even reach combat. These babies have saved my ass so many times its not funny.
OLD ONE EYE-dead
no, he didn't single handedly kill them (cept the lord and chaplain) but i would have been so screwed without the pistol
Speaking from experience, I would definetly go with the Dual lightning claws. I use them all the time on my Death Company Chaplian and when you go up against tactical squads and you have 6 attacks with re rolls to hit and to wound its devastating to your opponent. The trouble with the plasma pistol is you risk the wounding of yourself and you're only going to kill 1 guy. so its better of just sticking him in a squad letting the squad do all the firing then in CC unleash your Chaplain. Good luck and good hunting

He already comes with a weapon, it is included in his points cost so you've basically payed for it already. This means that those lightning claws will come out at 45 pts (power weapon+lightning claws) and I'd say it is not worth it, maxing out characters that already are great in combat is not neccessary. If you want claws, put them on your Commander.
