    Starting a white scars army

First of all, im a chaos player (dont burn the heretic just yet) but i started playing 40k with the space marines. Somone pointed out to me just a few days ago that a white scars army could take bike squads as basic trops, but only if they were 5 models strong.

So i got to number crunching, but then i realized that there are scout bikes too! are they worth taking? I started planning it out by deciding to take full troop choices (all 6) as 5 men bike squads. 2 fast attack choices would be attack bikes, 1 for tanks 1 for massive troop mowdown. and the last fast attack... i was debating on land speeders or scout bikers.
My H.Q. would be a chaplain on a bike who would probably join a unit of bikers. my elites would be 2 assult termis squads (yes even a chaos player can be happy about new SM plastic kits) and a tech marine as for heavy support i guess i can only use 1 tank... so it would have to be the vindicator! (did anyone see that cool plastic conversion for a vindicator from a sisters of battle immolator in white dwarf?) and 2 dreadnaught built for close combat.

And there you have it, why didint i add point value you might ask? because thats all i will buy cuz bikes are so damned expensive!

If theres any rules i effed up on, please tell me

P.S. Death to the false emperor!

Id strongly recommend skimmers, and better yet ravenwing, failing that, white scars dont nee d all bikes, so thing about mixing it up a bit. A all fast attack army would be kool, with maybe dreadnought support. Hence assault squads as eliets(much better place to put a chaplain), skimmers as fast attack, bikes as troops. Bikes should be loaded out with melta guns, id avoid attack bikes, skimmers can do the job better, though putting attack bikes in bikes squads is a good idea. Peace

However, scars are at their best when using an all bike army,

Re scout bikers- these are pretty naff, lacking the saves and weapons options of marine bikes.

But what you are descriobing can also done by using traits (nowerdays that is how poor WS have to do it!

But as I said, scars opperate at theior best with an all bike army, your terminators etc dont exactly fit

difficult? no not really it is a different stratergy, but when used as all bike armies, they can be horriffic.

It is simply a different stratergy and for players who already have exeriance, this can be a mental shift

Honestly, you should rethink white scars.

From what I gather, you are looking at the rules for them in index astares. Unfortunately, these rules are obsolete. White Scars are now a traight army. The real problem is that the traights they were given blow. Be swift as the wind is good as this is what gives you bikes as troops. However, the other traight they are given is terrible. I HIGHLLY recommend making your own DIY chapter and take Be Swift as the wind as one of your traights. This will allow you to do what you are looking for, but will also allow you to take a second traight that will be more useful to you. Alternatively, check out Ravenwing. They also get bikes as troops, but get some other spedcial abilities as well.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:

    1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant

    2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers

    3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC

i see your point on creating my own chapter, not only do i get to choose the name and skills but i also get to choose the paint job (ill probably keep it the same just watch).

So heres what i think, making a minor devergance SM army!
Courageous: Be as swift as the wind
Drawback: We stand alone. (what happens if im playing a team battle? can i not have an ally?)

Heres what i came up with as a list for a 1800pt game:

    Actual pt cost: 1795
    H.Q. (300pts)
    2x Master of sanctity *pts
    +artificer armor *pts
    +space marine bike *pts

    Elite (215)
    Techmarine *pts
    +full servo-harness *pts
    +extra power weapon *pts
    +4 combat servitors *pts
    +> Rhino *pts

    Troops (1230)
    6x Bike squads
    +terminator honours *pts
    +thunder hammer *pts

So in short its 2 chaplain's leading 30 bikers by the nose with a Techmarine in his personal Rhino running at you... sounds like fun?

might be stupid $$ wise but i can afford it!

what are your thoughts? post here or email me at Watusa@gmail.com

First off, posting the point values of individual units or wargear is STRICTLY against the forum rules. DO NOT post individual point costs. Totals for squads/units are fine, but people shouldnt be able to tell the point cost of a single item/model from your posts.

Second Traight? Yes, you can have an ally in a 2 on 2. It just means you cant take allies in YOUR list.

Use 1 HQ untill you get to at least 2000 points. You will be serverly outnumbered as it is, no reason to make it worse.

Bolt pistol for extra attack? Terminator honours for extra attack? Both a must have.

Why? Drop this, it is terrible. It looks good on paper, but those servitors are gonna die REALLY quick and the techmarine, with his WS and I of 4 isnt going to last much longer. Unfortunately he is a poor unit. Drop him.

Drop hammers for fists. Nearly the same, but fists cost half the points. Again, your gonna be outnumbered, no reason to make it worse. Melta guns and flamers in the squads? Attached attack bikes? Best bet for bike squads is the following:

1 Sergeant biker, terminator honors, bolt pistol, powerfist
2 Bikers, meltaguns (or flamers, but melta guns work better as you already have TL bolters for AP5).
    2 bikers
    1 attack bike, HB

If your gonna run with ONLY bikes, id go with as many of these squads as possible. The reason being they can take out both armor and infantry. Very important.

If you can afford it, you may as well make an army list that will work.
