So what do you all use as Drop pods model wise? Any have any pictures they will share or instructions on making one? Is there a kit out there Im unaware of?
If you look in the back of the codex at the big picture of Imperial fists fighting some nids I think the big grey things are drop pods. Looks like they used a rhino chassis as the base and lots of plasticard.
Forgeworld has a drop pod model but I think it's pretty expensive.
A friend of mine made a couple rhino sized bunkers out of foam and plasticard that he uses as drop pods.
I think as long as it looks like a box and ungraceful you're in the right direction.
I can read now!
If you search the forums, you may find some useful information. In addition, although the 'official' shape is roughly pentagonal, I've toyed with the idea of creating rectangular drop pods to make construction easier. Make a base the size of 10 tac marines standing in tight formation, and then add bits and pieces until it looks suitably 'Drop Podish'. A couple rectangles, a few (isosceles) trapezoids, and you should be good. I've seen people say that since there are no official models you can make them any shape and size you'd like, but keep it reasonable.
For my Drop Pod, I started with the Rhino kit. I left off the treads, instead adding 4 legs, which are removeable. I left the top off as well, which gives them a 'D-Day Landing Craft' look. Then I covered the hollow part on the top where the treads are, and added two Space Shuttle style wings. In essence, my Drop Pods deploy out of a ship (Thunderhawk perhaps) in high orbit, and fly in much like the NASA Space Shuttles.
This is a really easy an cheap conversion, with Plasticard and modelling putty making up the wings, and I took the legs off of something...but you can DIY on those. And sorry, I don't have any pictures of it.

Like urbanknight said, you can make your own droppod. (and if you email me I'd be more than happy to give you a template for building a droppod...)

Wow thanks all! If anyone has the capability and time Id sure love to see pics
from the pictures i've seen of them and the model from GW. they're usually tear-drop shaped with all four sides folding down, supports at the corners holding the the top up, troop compartment in the middle, and a crumby storm bolter at the top. fluff-wise, drop pods are fired from battle barges like giant artillery shells (reaching the ground so fast that anti-air and flak doesn't have time to target them). and in DoW it shows them with thrusters on the bottom so they don't blast into the ground at such a high-rate as to scramble everyone inside.
