In normal infantry squads, do the guardsmen using heavy weapons get lasguns? Do they get them in heavy weapons squads? Also, if they do, where would you glue the lasgun? On their back? Onto the base (they dropped it to use heavy wep)?
I don't think you need to concern yourself with it too much. If your heavy weapons squads are using their lasguns something has gone wrong
They do have those cool LED's.
The loader crewman can even shoot with it.
I'm not sure about the gunner crewman, since other armies' models dont have bolters on heavy weapon troopers. (think not)

Chaos does not need explaining! guess what? Chaos cannot be explained!Originally Posted by BobaHat
I'm giving some normal random troopers left over missile launchers, they SHOULD be in a normal infantry squad, and say I want to move and shoot someone with that squad, I move towards them, and then do I get 20 lasgun shots, 18, or 16? (assuming I have no special weps)
Do I have the assualt rules wrong? I only have the 3rd ed rulebook (and I may have that wrong too), and am getting back into 40k now...rapid fire can move and then shoot twice at 12"?
I was just wondering for the hvy wep teams. I agree, if they get a chance to shoot lasguns, something is wrong
Also, LED's? What are you talking about?
Yes they do, if u read the codex it specifically says "Two guardsman may form a heavy weapon crew and must be armed with one of the weapons from the following list:.....". Nowhere does it say that they must trade-in they old weapon and nither is any 1 modeleqipped with 2 weapons. It is the team that is equipped and it is the individual guardsman that is armed with a lasgun. So yes if u want to move u can have your 20 lasgun shots:shifty:
"Crescit in adversis virtus" (Virtue is Born in Hardship)
"Cheese is the cry of the weak"
You are; Empire (truly)
You are 63% Honorable, 47% Bloodthirsty, 37% Magic-minded, and 85% tactically-oriented!
I think that it stands to reason that the loader still has his weapon (on the GW site it shows a hvy wep crew in which the loader has a lasgun), but then why does it specify that heavy weapon crews have two people in them? If the loader dies, can the other one still shoot? (The only way that would happen though is if someone was stupid enough to pick out the loader, not the one carrying the weapon. However, it WOULD be smart to do that if the gunner couldn't fire, b/c the one with the gunner doesn't have a lasgun  )
Also, bye you reasoning CowboyAdam512, special weapon guardsmen still have lasguns... I quote: "One guardsmen not acting as part of a heavy weapon crew may be armed with one of the special weapons from the following list:" It's not very well worded or explained. I don't know what they meant...
Thanks for all of the ideas so far, now lets see if we can clear this up.
i don't count my heavy weapons crews when it comes to lasgun fire, i think of it as this, the gunner is too busy tending to the heavy weapon, and the loader is too busy tending to all the ammo and gear for the heavy weapon (or they're both pushing/carrying the heavy weapon as some of them are rather large for one person along). as for special weapon squads, i think it can be assumed that they gave up their lasgun for that niftly plasma gun or whatever, and any ammo cartridges or other gear needed for it.
some one said something about if gunner died could the loader still fire, i would say yes, as the loader would know the ins and outs of that heavy weapons system,as to whether the gunner dies, remember there are weapons/units that can pick off chosen individual models (ie. the vindicare assassin). so the imperial guard have one slight advantage over, say a space marine squad, where you need to pick off two people to take out a heavy weapon instead of just one.
The rules on Heavy Weapons teams really need to be more clear. It's everyone's best guess on the specifics.
We'll show these filthy aliens what Imperial Guard are made of!
there is a Q&A somewhere, and ive read it and both the gunner and loader get their lasgun shotys if the want to.
LED's: LED's are a type of powerful light bulb (blue) and as lasguns are often called torches (because they are percieved to be useless and are only good for useing as a torch) smallelflaughing called them LED's.
