Hey guys, I have a question about the Blood Angels Honour gaurd. Can they be a seperate unit or do they have to include an HQ choice, becuase I want to have a squad with 2 or 3 power weapons and the only 2 squads that can are a Veteran squad and a Honour Guard. However the Veteran squad cannot be equipped with Jump Packs and I really don't feel like walking those expensive units up the field under a hail of fire. Also, my Chaplain allready has a retuine which is the death company and I don't want to equip him with an Honour gaurd. So my question is "Can Honour Gaurds/Command squads be a seperate unit or do they have to have an HQ with them?"

Actually, you can put jumppacks on the veterans since you're playing bloodangels. The Blood angel veteran assault squad is what you are looking for...(p.7 BAcodex)
I don't think you are allowed to field an honor guard without any independent characters honour to guard
No Honor Guards can't be alone, they need to have an HQ with them. It's not so bad, just use a librarian or High Preist with them. They would be a nice compliment to your chaplain.
Like Ratus said, the Vet squads can have Jump packs (blood angels only) so technicaly you can have a all jumpy army, well just about ^_^

I know I can get veteran Assault squads but they can't have power weapons except the seargent so its virtually an Assault squad that costs 3 points more per model. I don't want to include another HQ becuase my chaplain costs 100pts more than a normal SM chaplain. *Sigh.....I guess my veterans will have to walk if they want big swords or claws:cry:

They dont need to walk, they can just stuff themselves into a drop pod...
But hey, your Chaplain costing 110 points more than a normal guy is a GOOD thing. Death company just kick the butts out of every other fast-moving unit of the Space Marines in CC...for 4-6 of them, you only pay the price for 5 standard Assault marines. It's a VERY good deal already.
OK thew answer to the first Q is no, think honour Gaurd - who are they guarding, you cant take an honour Guard without a HQ and you cant take one if the HQ is a chappy!
vet squads from codex sm can indeed take a power fist and a power weapon - nasty, add a vet sgt with a power tool and bingo, but the choices here are foot slog it, rhino it or drop pod it, wither way you gotta take some licks before you lay into things. The way round it is to use multiple stuff, eg in 1500 points I got 2 razors and 2 rhinos comming up the field under cover from a Baal, I got a vet squad in 1 rhino and the other has a HK missile, so the vet squad is the least threatening rhino
Vet assault squads (BA only) are now truely naff, hopefully they will get some treatment on the next release of codex BA (probably the ability to take similar weaponry to the standard vet squad)
