What are your thoughts on having lots of sentinels in your army? Because i think of them as meatshields for other units
Sentinals are good for a couple of different things:
Good for Drop Trooping armies, where the Sentinals can drop safely at a distance, and provide fire support.
The other is an an already Tank Heavy army. Sentinals are too fragile on there own, so you have to have "more imortant" targets for the enemy AT fire.
I like to keep a Lascannon Sentinal next to a Russ. Almost no one fires at the Sentinal.
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
I like them, I either use them as mobile fire platforms or suicide flamer killers of doom. I've had some pretty good luck with them on both roles...
i've found them to be pretty useful as a CC deterrent. if bad guys get near a guard squad, assault them with a sentinel. not immediately killable and will tie them up for a short while, while the rest of your guard manuever.
I thought you said they wouldn't charge us!
What I said was: I didn't think they would charge us and win. And I still believe that.
Then if they can't win, what are they doing charging us?
It's possible, I suppose, their commander disagrees with my assessment...
I love having Heavy Flamer Drop Troop Sentinels. They can really make someone have a bad day if they land on their target. If they don't land where they were supposed to, then who cares? They are incredibly cheap and will at least cause some confusion for your opponent to deal with before he can move forward with his plans.
As for having lots of them... Sure, go ahead. I've seen a 12 sentinel army do quite well before so I can't really knock it.
Since my plans for my IG are only plans, I can't say if they are great or not, but on paper, I like them a lot.
My list is due to have at least 6, but up to 12, as I'm also quite fond of the minis too.
IIRC, and they are cheaper than Land Speeders but with the same armour, and what they lack in quick speed, they make up with the scout thing.
But again, I've let to even buy them, so, but like Hourglass, I have seen them used well.

I've used a squad of 3 with lascannons against my friends SM chapter with good results.
They may have bad armor but it actualy works out as an advantage. Many players will see the puny walkers and scoff at them. My friend made the same mistake, going for the bigger tanks like Leman Russes and Bassies only to have his Dreads torn to bits by lascannon fire.
I've even experimented with DSing them..although that ended with them off a table edge so I have no comment. I'm sure it would have worked out better had they landed where they were supposed to.
expenisive $$$ that's why I don't use them more to be honest. they're 25 USD a piece, and you have to take them in large numbers in a list or not at all, so I just don't have any
$30 for the Cadian ones, which is nearly one full squad of Cadian Shock Troops. I would love to get a squad of three, but like tojo said, they are way too much money for the model itself.
Response to Tojo: Yes, correction. I ment to say one full box of Cadian Shock Troops. =)
