    storm bolter vs. Hvy Stubber

    hi again lol,
Well I"m a bit confused firstly about the appearence of the storm bolter and/or the heavy stubber. To my understanding, the storm bolter is a very long gun (single barrelled) while the heavy stubber is a double barreled however very short and extremely stubby gun, please correct me if I am wrong.

Secondly, with the tanks would you rather have a non-open top tank? Or a tank with some extra weapons but with an open-top penalty?

Third and lastly... Which of the two weapons would you recommend the most? I mean an obvious suggestion would that the Heavy stubber (Having cost more) would be the better of the two but that again... I am a noob.

any Help would be appreciated... Noob In Distress lol

you're wrong, the storm bolter is short, stubby and double barrelled. I don't know about the heavy stubber but I believe it's just an ordinary-ish machinegun so very long and single barrelled sounds right.

I can't help you with the other two.

If you're going to add a pintle weapon, take the heavy stubber every time. A 5+ armor save isn't going to affect the results too much, and the 12" of extra range is much more useful.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with the open topped/non open topped tank. The sentinel is a walker, can be made not open topped, but cannot take a heavy stubber or storm bolter. The chimera counts as closed top unless a model fires out of it, in which case it counts as open topped for the purposes of shooting. None of the other vehicles in the IG codex can be open topped.

I would recommend against having squads using the Chimera as some sort of mini-bunker, because it doesn't offer a lot of protection, and you're stuck shooting at the same target as the chimera.

basilisk (and griffon mortar tank if they hadn't done away with that) is also open-topped; but that should be off in the corner and safe from any fire anyways, so shouldn't need an armored crew compartment. sentinels aren't worth the points for it.

as for heavy stubber/storm bolter. hellhound can make good use of heavy stubbers, while chimera can too when used as mobile weapons platform. don't use it as a bunker, only 3 infantry it limits your infantry's number of shots and choice of targets as well as those of your chimera's noticably.

I agree that the heavy stubber is a superior weapon... especially on a chimera with a multi laser and HHB. 9 shots at 36" is soo sweet. Thats the same as an heavy weapons unit that can move and shoot, is twice as fast and has the transport ability for 100pts with smoke.

If you want to save those 2 extra points, I would suggest that you leave the storm bolter at home as well and save the rest of the points.

And you dont need to be oppen topped to fire the pintle mounted weapon either. Only if you want to fire a weapon that a pasenger is holding.
    It's worth a krak!

so,... Installing a Heavy stubber/Storm Bolter on your Leman Russ (fired by crew coming out of the turret) won't count the Leman Russ as an open topped vehicle?

That's right. It's assumed that when there's incoming fire the gunner ducks and closes the hatch! I know I would...

Uh huh, but you shouldn't really bother sticking any of the pintle weapons on the leamn russ. You can't fire it if you use the ordonance so the points you spent are wasted most of the time.

Depends what your firing at actually, I usually take them incase either what I am firing at is spaced out to anti-ordinance formation or incase my battle cannon is disabled. Works wonders versus orks...
