Hey Evry1 - New to guard but not to 40K so don't worry about a -

"wich armee iz bes so i can collect it" post.

I just wanted to have some questions answered -

In the new codex, on page 60 - 61, which of these forces are actually made, or are to be made in the near future. (Except for Catachans of course)

I would dearly like to collect the Harakoni Warhawks but do not just want to use cadians. And for some weirde reason, i prefer metal figures to plastic!

I like the look of Mordians but dont want different poses too much, mainly men in the shooting pose, can i choose which metals i can have?

    Cheers

    Chris

The warhawks look alot like cadians with the comm head, and backpack of a space marine ( perhaps?), so best bet would be to use cadian models to shave down on cost. Because its either 50 for a kaskrin or steel legion squad of 10 or 38 for a box of 20 Cadians or Catachan. Problem with metal's being price. However I suppose if you were content to shell out the money using mordian models would work. As for the pose you would probily have to do some converting to get them all into one pose. When you buy the blister packs you can see what pose there in.

When using close order drill, is there a problem with blast weapons?

Well, I usually have my guys in a tight formation, and let me tell you a termie came up with a heavy flamer and killed a squad ( 7 guardsman ) in one shot...very nasty... Likewise without the 2 inch maximum spacing template weapons get max effectivness.Theres a diagram of this in the codex, under the close order drill doctrine.

I should warn you, that Warhawks is a very, um, odd army to play. Very expensive per unit compared to other guard. But, if you are up to the challenge, go for it! It's great to see armies that are uniquely "you". And anyway, who am I, Mechanized Infantry player that I am, to talk.

If you really like COD then I would reccomend you do this: In the movement phase before you charge, or if an enemy assault is imminent, move into COD. However, when you are trying to cover ground, keep your distance.

You can use whatever minis you want for a Harokoni Warhawks regiment. I'd reccomend the Ksarkin, but if those arn't appealing to you try the old storm troopers or Steel Legion. Steel Legion would actually look cool, except the their overcoat could blow off! You could probably come up with some excuse - ie my troopers excell at cold weather, they parachute in without their coats but once they land the don them for combat. You could convert shoulder-padless cadians (like the ones in the tanks -hmmm) and convert them to be putting on a jacket. But, if you just took some green stuff and modeled a shell like armor structure, like a cast, around the exposed legs it would look great. Plus they have googles and masks. Up to you.

And about having not very many varied poses. I would stick with boxed sets and not go out of your way to vary them, and if you don't like some, convert!

    EDIT:

Two things. 1) if I haven't mentioned it already and you are going to do Harokoni Warhawks, I would reccoment a Valykrie. They are expensive buggers, 115$ I believe (60 pounds if you are Brittish, no clue if you are an aussie,) but are so COOL. 2) Kreig may be coming with the Valhallan plastics in 5 YEARS AFTER **** GW REALEASES THE PLASTIC TERMIES as head swaps! I mean come on, who uses so many termies that they need plastics. If you take two squads then that's 840, without upgrades. Anyway, those are the only ones with any plans to be built.
