hi im kinda new to warhammer i mainly got into because of the fluff but now i want to start an army. i like the SM and i have picked out the DA and BT. but i cant decide which to pick. can anyone help.
Here is some advice, first Read up on as much fluff you can get on the two, personally i don't know squat about templars but i field DA often enough.
Some things to consider:
Which ones look cooler, are easier to paint? Which have more visual appeal.
Which group has rules that you like or don't like? i think templars require 'scouts' or their version of them in every squad, where as DA can not feild veteran squads other than terminators.
Consider your interests, reason for playing, etc and compare them to the strengths and weaknesses of each group. For instance if you really like skimmers and bikes a DA ravenwing army might be a good way to go.
Also, what types of tactics appeal to you stratefy wise? Pick the group that uses them.
Basically, choose whichever group you think is cooler, and after that pick the one that meshes with your POV the most.
Do you want to shoot or go hand to hand? If you want to shoot, get Dark Angels. If you want to get in close get Templars.
If you like the armory, veteran sergeants, and don'tlike morale checks or plasma go for Dark Angels
If you love Landraider Crusaders and Champions as well as cool vows go get codex: armageddon and play black templars

I came, I saw, I got a different type of Leman Russ.

There's also the fluff to consider. Do you like the idea of a chapter which appears to everyone to be one of the greatest chapters in the Imperium, the first chapter founded and some of the staunchest defenders of mankind, yet have a dark secret: a terrible blemish on their honor from 10 thousand years ago so terrible only the most senior members of the chapter itself truly know of it and which the chapter secretly is constantly searching, constantly striving to redeem their honor without anyone knowing, or...
Do you like the idea of a chapter on perpetual crusade. Fervently religious and devout, potent in hand to hand but not raging like the BA or just down right aggressive like the Space Wolves. More of a righteous indignation kind of thing. Very gothic feel. It's not that they are more loyal than the other chapters, it is that they are simply more zealous. Think of the Knights Templar (I believe that's what they were called) who, IIRC, gave up all of their possessions save things like their armor to protect pilgrims on their way to the Mid-East during the Crusades. I'm a little rusty on that stuff, but I think that's it.
The first is the Dark Angels, the second is the Black Templars.
"Don't Delay-The best is the enemy of the good. By this I mean that a good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan next week. War is a very simple thing, and the determining characteristics are self-confidence, speed, and audacity. None of these things can ever be perfect, but they can be good."
-General George S. Patton, Jr.
I have black templars and I like them very much...
but I have 2 know if black templars may use scouts in
No they can't, they only have neophytes, who are in essention scouts but they join regular tac and bike squads.

Anyway. Definately think about what kind of army you want to have. I recently started to collect an IG army. And having a plan about what kind of army you want can be great help.
I just wanna make my ritual point to new players.
Chaos shall conquer the galaxy and build the new empire of the misled servants of the corpse-emperor. Make the right choice, cast aside the shackles of the ministorum oppression and join us.
