hi thanks for looking at this thread
now on to the real reason that i have started this thread
i have recently caught the guard bug after playing winter assault and have collected up to now
1 command squad
1 infantry platoon
1 armoured fist squad
1 blister of psykers
and 1 extra chimera converted from a predator
All that i really need is some suggestions on what to get next
i have an idea of what i want my army to be like mainly infantry with tanks
finaly i want to get a super heavy tank though i dont know which one to get
so i would appreciate any help you can give me
thanks in advance
i'd drop the techpriests and psykers, they are some of the worst units the IG can have due to point sink, the engiseer due to him having to be 'glued' to your armored vehicle on the case that it does immobilized and the amount of servitors you need to have at least half a chance for it to work and psykers due to the randomness of their sub-par abilities.
as for what to get, a leman russ and a hell hound would round out your tank needs quite well. some vets or stormtroopers, maybe rough/xeno riders, or maybe even grey knight allies or inquisitor and assassin.
if you've got an extra chimera, prolly putting some stormtroopers or veterans into it would be good...
personally, i'm a fan of veterines myself, so i'd say at least a squad of them...
then look into heavy support,
either a leman russ, or a pack or sentinels (or both)...
tho, if you wanna look into the parking lot of doom, there's always the option of a Mechanized army (a chimera for each squad) and 2 more Basalisks...
Pictures of the Smigs Army for your amusement....
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women"
"JESUS SAVES! the rest of your models each take a wound."
Depends upon the size of army you intend to play, but I'd say look at getting at least 1 more infantry platoon and some heavy weapon squads.Originally Posted by Vaki
I would suggest like others that you keep the techpriest and psykers until you've filled up on basics and have points left over for some fluff
Initially I would suggest aiming for an HQ command section, 2 infantry platoons and 1 or 2 HW squads, then use the Chimera(s) to add Armoured Fist Squads to each platoon.
Also read the varoius threads and tactica here, loads of excellent advice and ideas.
Only an idiot fights a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of the kingdom of idiots would fight a war on twelve fronts.
you need some leman russes and if you want a heavy tank i suggest a vanquisher, its cannon is cool. You can fire a regular blast shot or use a tankhunter shot so when you hit you get 2 D6 strength for penetration so pretty much youll get a penetrating shot on anything so youll kill any armoured vehicle there is.
I would reccomend another infantry platoon, as for the techpriest I have seen him be effective before but you need to use him correctly... as for the psykers, well only schaeffer psykers are really decent.... if you want to use the vanquisher you can sometimes run into problems since you need to provide the rules for them as they do not come in the codex, and not everyone allows you to use them while not in the codex (although they should as it has been clarified)...
