Im thinking of getting one and would like to know what all you guys think about them.
Put it this way. A Baneblade is a ridicilously strong behemoth that you probably won't get to field very often because of several reasons. Firstly, the rules for superheavy tanks state that they should never be allowed in games of less than 2000p - so in order to field a Baneblade you'd need a battle of atleast 2634 points. Since most battles are around 1000-2000p, that tank won't see much action.
Secondly, superheavy tanks such as the Baneblade are all in the Imperial Armour rulebooks, so you would need to get a hold of one of those aswell. You also need your opponents permission to field things from Imperial Armour, which further lowers the chances of your tank seeing combat. Of course, that accounts for everything in the Imperial Armour books, but even more so for the Superheavies, because there is a major difference between fielding a Hydra Flak tank or a Chimera with an Autocannon turret compared to fielding Superheavy tanks.
Unless you've already got a significant Guard army I would advice against Superheavy tanks and flyers. Start small with smaller vehicles such as the Hydra flak tank and such, since your opponents are probably going to let you field those more often. A Baneblade is a massive investement better left for megabattles. It's a "Hey! Look what I've got!" type of tank.
Rulewise though, it's a beast and I'm going to get my own someday, but not before I've got everything else I want and I suggest you do the same.
I believe 2000 points should be enough.Originally Posted by Kaiser
omg yes! baneblades pwn all. It is that simple. My Black Legion mechanised infantry use one. Its true thats its rarely used, but I have yet to regret either buying it or taking it to battle. In fact Im getting a stormsword as well soon (check out the iron clan if you want to help me convert it ). I just love tanks. So yes get one. And yes I am a tank fanboy, dont judge
ive got a shadowsword and it owns. you DONT need your opponents permission to use super heavies or any of the other imperial armour stuff, they just say that it is courteous gaming practise to warn your opponent when you use them
All material that's not in the Codices, Army FAQs or Chapter Approved(There are exceptions to this one) requires your opponents permission to be used.Originally Posted by frostbite
EDIT: You should also keep in mind that only a few tournaments allow Imperial Armour. Thus even fewer chances of accaully fielding it.
I also own a Baneblade and from experience its best to use one in games of 2000+ pts because in smaller games you wont have many other units to support it also it you do need opponents consent to use it in games smaller then 2000pts and yea it is a beast. The last time I used mine was a couple of weeks ago in a 2000pts game and I was against nurgle, he got first turn and rolled 6's and both his dreadnaughts with twin linked las cannons so they both got to fire twice because they both got fire frenzy which he ended up destroying a weapon but I was smart enough to but a Techpriest behind the Baneblade with a tech servitor so when it was my turn I fixed it by rolling a 5 and at the end of the battle the only damage it took was -2" of its movement and destroyed alot of my opponents army so yea Baneblade’s have a very hight survivability rate and cause a lot of damage to your opponent and they also look cool

BANEBLADE: HAMMER OF THE EMPEROR!
OK Kaiser was a little out, as someone pointed out, you only need 2000 points, not 2000+ the Baneblade.
But he was spot on the money about agreement and frostbright is completely wrong, you need your opponents permision to use super heavies. Most tourneys ban them, even the few tourneys that allow forgeworld stuff (such as GW campaign weekends) ban the use of super heavies.
That said, a bane blade is a powerfull tank, it is gonna take 4 decent hits to take it down, just bear in mind if you take 2000 points and one third of them is the bane blade, you have very few points left for other armour, your opponent, knwoing you are taking a supre heavy, may well invest in a lot of anti tank, with little other armour (unless you are taking an armoured company) the BB is likely to draw all the AT fire he can muster, how long will it take 2000 points to get 4 hits?
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Keep in mind, a Baneblade is a BIG target. A friend of mine at the local club has one that he breaks out on larger battles. However, I can usually bring it down by turn 3. Granted, as a Tau player, I've got it a bit easier, but it's going to draw a LOT of fire.
Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me.
Member of the Canadian Clan, eh.
Mech Tau Cadre: 2000 points, needs paint and magnets.
Paladins of Avalon (SW):-1500 points, needs paint.
just picked one up myself. We will be running an "anything goes...well almost anything" league at our local store. I am running it. The theme was to allow FW model owners to break ot their models and have fun with them with out many of the restrictions! Shoud be fun. Battles will be 2000 pts, 2250, and 2500 pts. The finals will be 2500-3000 pts, depending on what the opponents agree on...if they have that many points. I plan on using my BB for this league....hope I build it in time, its a million peices! thank God I have massive experience with Armored Vehicle models to help me build this beast!
I got the Weisman Version....
