well im new to warhammer so i was wondering wat should i put in my space marine army(1000pt)^_^ ^_^
Being new to Warhammer probably makes you pretty new to the Forum, so I start by apologizing if this seems harsh.
The first thing you should do is let us know what you want in an army. Do you want to fight in hand to hand? do you want to sit and shoot? have you read the codex and like any units (conceptually)? I don't want to tell you want I think you will like knowing nothing about you, so help us out a little bit and let us know how you plan to play? who you plan to play? and why you plan to play (competitive, friendly, meet people).
Until I get that from you I don't know what you should put in 1000 point army, but it is a safe bet that you should pick up some tac squad marines.
If you have to start a new space marines army...choose Black Templars my friend. New Codex, new excellent models and a very good army!!!!

Well, first pick your codex, i recommend you look at both the marine codex, the dark angle codex, blood angle codex, space wolf codex, and the black templars codex.
I will give you a breif overview of each chapter to help you out. Space marines are a desent army, but not much charactor in the list generic forms, but it allows you to create an army that reflects your playing style, this is the only army for which you have that much freedom, using the wonderful trait system. Unless you play pure ultra marines, which are gererally your all around ok, not terrably good at anything style army. Vanilla or triat marines again give you more freedom, and you can make up your own fluff(story) ect. Trait marines can also be pretty assaulty, and extreamily shooty, depending on your style of play.
Black templars are the most religous of fighters, who are crusaders "bringing the emperors light to the dark areas of the galaxy" They are close combat oreneted, but can be slightly shooty, if need be, although they are best going all assault. They are untested however, some say they are not very good any more, ive played against them a bit, i was not terrabily impressed, but they are a very fun army, with great models and good story.
Spacewolves They are just that, they fight like a pack of wolves, Assault orented, but also maintain some ability to shoot. They have the hands down the best troop choice of any space marine army, but its range is limited. They must be played assaulty, as it is not possible to fiend a purly shooty army with them. They also have a desent story, although i dont care for it much.
Blood angles, They are the best CC army for space marines, before each battle some members slip into an uncontrolable rage, known as the black rage, they are near invinceble when this happens, They are a army that demands min/maxing, a tactic you will get familar with if you play them. Basically they have very mobile very good assault troops, which are backed up, but very desent fire power. I would say, blood angles and spacewolves and trait marines are the best lists around. Again they have well develobed story, but not my personal favorate.
Dark angels, are the best for last ;o They have my favorate fluff, but the worst rules. They are a shooty army, that functions like ultra marines. However, dark angles are intractable fighters, who will never fall back from shooting, and some wont even fall back from assault, even when it might be a good thing. Again they are primarily shooty. They have some of the best models in the game, and some pretty neat colors avaiable to choose from, for painting. They harbor a great secret, and are known as the unforgiven. They also include 2 other armies. The first army, is known as deathwing, one of the most feared an aww inspiring companies in all of 40k, they are completly immune to moral, they come to battle with in suits of termintor armour, the finest protetion in the galaxy, armed to the teeth with powerful guns, and giant CC weapons. That said, they are the second hardest space marine army to play. THe first, is also in this very codex, they are the second company known as the ravenwing, they are an army which strikes as fast as the wind, comprised soloy of skimmers and bikes. They are one of the best armies around, but it takes a commander of great skill to use them, more then i have, and ive been around for awhile. I would stay away from these armies for quite some time, untill you master your skillz as a commander.
Start off by buying 2 tactical squad boxes. I would suggest you first consider which army you want to play, space wolves tactical squad boxes come with extra equipment that is very fun to have, as do the black templars boxes. Although the normal space marine box is pretty cool as well. IF you end up going dark angels, their is a dark angle box, but i woudlnt buy it, id buy the cloaked models, you get 2 at a time, they are melta, but they look amazing. If your anything but space wolves, pick up 2 5 man boxes of assault marines as well, Also, buy a chaplain. Do not equipic any models with flamers, or heavy bolters yet. Melta guns are the best special weapon for assautly armies, plsama guns make good fire support. Then pick up a devistator squad. A chaplain would be nice, for any army but space wolves, in fact, becareful if you go space wolves, should probably come back and start a new threat with what i should buy for wolves, if you end up selecting them. Finally for any army, land speeder tornados are always nice.
Happy hunting, and my you crush the enemies of the emperor.
Hmmm a very info and background. One thing I want to add about the Black Templars. It's not because that I'm a Black Templar player but some are saying that with the new rules they became less better. Beleive me...who says these I suggest him to study the codex very well because if played well..BT can become one of the best armies in 40K and I played against Nids, Eldar and D Angels with a great success!!!!
The difference of BT compared with other Space Marines is that if you know exactly what BT are good at, you can mix your opponents mind to the full. One thing I'm going to tell you, study how you can take advantage of the Righteous Zeal and you will last long while reaching your enemy in no time!!!
Whichever army you choose...fight for the Emporer!!!
