Exactly what is the Preatorian Imperial Guard and are they and good?(PS are they in and codexes or such??)thaks people!
The Guardsmen Legions, we fight for the freedom!
They were a limited edition boxed set of Imperial Guard based around the old Modian guard model-wise with the peaked caps removed and a pith helmet added. Fluff wise they were a translation of early Victorian era British Imperial soldiers and were painted with red coats, white helmets and black slacks with a thin red stripe down the side.
They looked good modelled and painted like that but were a little like the Mordian Iron Guard in that they were really just novelty troops - not much advantage or disadvantage game-wise and really looked a bit out of place in a futuristic wargame. Basically they were meant to be a one off oddball unit that no-one was supposed to take too seriously hence the limited production run.
The one Battlereport to come out of the army related to the Battle of Ork's Drift - a bastardisation of Rorkes Drift a battle during the Imperial police action in Southern Africa and Natal to pacify dangerous, insurgent and land claiming Zulu tribesmen in the 1870's. The Praetorians played the Imperial forces defending a missionary outpost against the Orks who represented the rampaging tribesmen.
Also depicted in the film 'Zulu' starring Michael Caine.
