Anyway, recently i was reading through the IG army lists when i spotted this
50 grenadiers ? Correct me if i am wrong but the docterine says You can have 0-3 squads of grenadiers. That means a total of 36 in one army. Did i miss somthing while reading???
"From this day to the ending of the world..InquisitorLordReiss
How many Inquisitors does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Three,
one to screw it in, one to outlaw lightbulbs, and one to deny lightbulbs ever existed.
We in it shall be remembered...
We band of brothers."
3 Grenadier squads would be 30 models, not 36. And this is really a question that could have been handled with some common sense.
"I would listen to Sokhar. The man's a genius. Listen."~Lord Yossanrion"Thanks, Sokhar. There was some legitimately good advice in between the low-grade profanity, blaspheming and veiled insults."~Quick"Well thought, intelligently put, with a hint of sarcastic bastard!"~Diggum's Hammer
Take 3 squads of Grenadiers, and 3 squads of Stormtroopers. You have 60 Stormies on your hands.
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
it was a misunderstanding. yes, if you want to you could easily make an army out of nothing but storm troopers and vehicles, but I don't know if it would work too well
that's a topic to talk about, the effectiveness of storm troopers in large quantities. I think that they are basically mobile heavy bolter teams, slightly better save, more wounds, but more expensive, and not quite the punch
What?? Mobile heavy bolter teams...Explain what you mean by this please.Originally Posted by tojoIndeed.slightly better save,More wounds??? I don't know what you've been reading, but Stormies only have one wound, just like everyone else.more wounds, but more expensive, and not quite the punch
As for their effectiveness, I say they are really good. Not too expensive considering their equipment, but they just don't compare to Veterans.
I think a good way to balance this would be to give them up to 4 special weapons, rather then 2. This would put them on par with Vets but still keep them mobile, which is their strong point in my opinion.

Perhaps Tojo's been playing a little too much Winter Assault, eh?
no no, they have AP5 guns, wihch makes the more effective than heavy support squads against 5+ or worse saves. and do the math, the difference in the number of wounds against a 4+ save is very small, and (especially with plasma) the stormies become better than the heavy bolter again against 2+ and 3+ saves. use a reg space marine as example. I wrote it all out in m notes when considering this particular idea.
more wounds is because they have more models befroe they die than a fire support squad, not more wounds per guy
I'm missing your comparison...Your comparing a mobile squad to a fire support heavy weapon squad...Why?
They do have better armor, which does mean they can actually withsatand bolter fire...but that's about it. As soon as the grenade launchers/ Missiles/ rail guns start flying that armor is useless.
