    Sarissa anyone?

It is the dreaded n00b again

I am finishing some troops for my not-on-the-table-yet army, and I was thinking about including the Sarissa wargear in my loadout for Celestian squad, or maybe the Dominions. I wanted to glue some combat knives (or similar) looking bitz to their boltguns, but before I do, I would like to ask for your opinion about this.

There seems to be no direct topic about this upgrade, and the gear is only mentioned briefly in three other topics. As I did not play a game with SOBs yet, I have no idea if this is useful or not... I would not do it for basic troops, but Celestians with their higher close combat skill would possibly find it usefull (well, you cannot avoid charges all the time, can you)? Dominions seem to be geared for fast and devastating attacks tactics, so unload-flame-charge is their lifestyle...

This gear seems to work in the same way as a priest, (and the cost is comparable) but is it worth the trouble at all? What are your experiences?

    Thanks!!!

The Sarissa does not appear to be a well thought out piece of wargear.
It's a nice idea for modeling, but only 1 vet can take it.
It's sorta like taking master-crafting for 5 points.
So it's not a bad deal, but it's not a good deal.
I would only get it if I had nothing else to do with that 5 extra points.

Lately I've been slightly more prone to take it, because my VSSs have been taking Bolters.
THe extra CC attack with the Bolt postol is not worth as much as having the bolter for me.

I have been taking the Brazier lately. Especially on Seraphim vs ower Armor.
It always makes its points back.

It should look like a torch:
Straighteded paper clip, dollop of clay, a bit of orange and black paint.

I am sorry - I think that I was reading the rules wrong - somehow I was thinking that the whole squad can have it. In this case the priest is the way to go!

    Silly me

Yeah, there really is no point to sarissa. I have never used them. Maybe if you could put them on a whole squad... but you can't. Witch hunters have such a huge armory with tons of upgrades but I largely find a lot of them useless.

The Sarissa isn't totally useless, but its value is quite low.

I've been using the Brazier lately, especially on Seraphim:

If you realize that many flamers shoot only once per game, then the single-shot doesn't bother you.
And if you realize that a flamer is 6-7 points, then the 10 point cost of the Brazier is really only a three or four point decision.
And if you want your Seraphim to be able to lay 2 flamer templates on an enemy squad before charging it (drool drool) while still being able to threaten tanks, then the following Seraphim configuration is worth considering:
    1 Inferno set + 1 Flamer set + 1 Eviscerator + 1 Brazier + Book of St Lucius.

    Thought I'd mention.

I so want GW to make the sarissa available to an entire squad.

You're not the only one who has made that mistake.
    It's a nifty idea.

I don't think anyone would object.
    I say do it.
It will look good, and even if you don't use them, it still will help differentiate your squads.
