Ok lol here is the quick question. In the Codex it says that officers carry two handed weapons and get to use the armory. NOW! Here is what im wondering! Under the armory it says Bolter, could you possibly give him a bolter? Also if so is it worth it? Just wondering.
Ummm, yes you can give him a bolter. You answered youself in your post. You said the officer can be equipped with a two handed weapon from the armoury. Then you asked if he could get a bolter, which is a two handed weapon purchased from the armoury.
As for being worthwhile, I don't bother myself. I give my officers power weapons and in which case a laspistol will serve them better.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
ACh.. I didn't know.. Thanks though very much!
It really does depend on what you are intending to do with your HQas to what you give him though, for a HQ that will get involved in an assault, a bolter is a waste as it is not hugely good in close combat, however if you are not intending to do this, but use your HQ for Moral, then a bolter is a better choice than a las pistol and power weapon
Everything you have been told is a lie!
typically I have a designated platoon officer or two that's just there for morale with a storm bolter, so if they need to I can always charge them and get the assault 2 benefits
"And any man who comes through this fight mostly unharmed will be my sister! It'll be free frocks and jollies for ever, you'll see!"
- Rome: Total War
9th Black Watch (Imperial Guard) 4000 points
Red Corsairs of Khorne 2000 points
Space Wolves 13th Company 2000 points
I have 2 sets of officers handy:
1) ranged officers, there for the Ld. They all have bolters. (it's only 1 friggin point)
2) close combat officers, armed with power swords and laspistols. Keep them cheap! I usually use these guys as commissars, but it doesn't really matter since soft little humans all die just the same...
But in some cases cc officers can really whip some butt. Just last weekend I charged an ork warboss (in mega armor) and retinue with 25 conscripts and a commissar. The conscripts handled the retinue okay, but the commissar took out the "mega-armored" boss in one swipe of a powersword! Incredible! The ork player was not as happy about it as I was though...
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Cool. For my new conversion for my Adeptus Mechanicus Army I took basically the body from the guy from the tank with the commissar type hat, added a robotic eye, took the Bolter that goes ontop of the tank and gave it to him with an IG arm. I am going to model some robotic arm to hold the trigger and butt of the gun. Also he has a mechanical ripper to do all his work for him, which also symbolizes the Trademark item. So I believe for the Officer it comes to about:
Total : 81 pts
Should I throw in Bionics for him? Is it worth it?

Bionics are useful, if you have a few extra points (which people usually do). What size game are you playing with this HQ?

Half Gods are worshiped with Wine and Flowers. Real Gods are worshiped in Blood.
Blood for the Blood God! Beer for the Bronze Keg!
Please don't post individual points costs... so, edit your post, please.
Also, Bionics aren't even worth the 5 points, IMO; no point in having them for shooting, as, for the most part, you have a bunch of Guardsmen to take hits; and also, in CC, your Officer(s) will be, for the most part, screwed anyways. I wouldn't waste points on it.
edit: However, it's a good fluffy addition, if you're going for that.
I dont think trademark item is a good buy for officer; it only applies to the unit that there commanding, and if they get enough casulties to force a morale check, you can count yourself dead already.
I wouldn't reccomen bionics, it's basically a crappy 6+ invunerable save...
Bolters ok, nothing really wrong there...
As for the HSo thingey...unless your planning to include a JO with a Honerifica Imperialis to command a platoon, I would reccomend you just get a Jo with an Honereifica for your command squad. It'll save you five points...
If you still want to include the ripper, you can always use the Chapter Approved Hunting Beasts rules for it.(link to them!)
