    Looking to start something new

I'm doing the space marine thing now and was considering IG next since I've collect all the marines I need...even more than I need. So I was going to start to sell off the units I will not use and start IG.

I like the conversion factor with IG, lots to do. Plus lots of models, mmmm, more painting. I'm looking to change from the white marines I painted, a DARK COLOR would be awesome.

I'm thinking about Catchans, but I have no clue about IG. I'm looking to get 500 pts first and build off of that. This time I'm doing it right, buying ONE unit and not buying another until the last one is completed to my satisfaction. This way there will be no half painted units.

Could you summarise the Catchan fighting style and thrown down a quick 500 pts of Imperial meat? Thanks

    * Oops, I was trying to get a themed army here, like tank hunters but with grenades and meltaguns. So lots of transports and not a lot of ranged weapons. Is this a good idea, probably not right?

Before we can answer any questions, I think we must know if you're thinking about a Codex: Imperial Guard army or a Codex: Catachan army. They're quite different.

A free downloadable copy of Codex: Catachans is available here:

I wouldn't suggest tank hunting with Grenade Launchers. They can't penatrate anything past 12. I also wouldn't recomend Catachans because they are a little under powered outside the jungle and don't have access to the transports you want.

You could make your own army using the Doctrines though, say Light Infantry, Jungle Fighters, Veterans, Heavy weapon platoons and Special Weapon squads. That'll give you a large infantry force and you could still take transports for your HQ and platoon HQ sections.

    Here's a 500pt list:

    HQ(101)
    Command Platoon
    -Senior Officer
    --Bolt Pistol, CCW
    -2 Melta Gunners
    -Heavy Flamer
    -Jungle Fighters

    TROOPS(399)
    Infantry Platoon
    Command Squad
    -Junior Officer
    --Bolter
    -Plasma Gun
    -Heavy Flamer
    -Jungle Fighters

    2 Infantr Squads
    -Sarge With Lasgun
    -Missile Launcher

    Armored Fist Squad
    -Sarge With lasgun
    -Melta
    -Heavy Flamer
    -Jungle Fighters
    -Chimera
    --Hull Heavy Bolter, Turret Multi-laser

    500 points exactly.
It's not much of a competitive list, but I worte it with mostly fluffiness in mind. There's probably a million things you could do to make it better.

Besides it seems like you need to buy Codex IG anyhow.
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
    143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
    159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)

Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces

From the looks of things you have no idea what it takes....

you say that you want one unit of people to start to convert... well guess what lolzor. there are 5 units each containing 10 guardsmen in 1 platoon... so each platoon choice consists of 50 + units! :w00t: So for like 320 pts of infantry is like 200 guardsmen. But if your going for Leman Russes or Tanks then have fun with conversions.

(Sort of a heads up on how many you will need for a good army. Actually my 700 pts army consists of 2 tanks, techpriest with 4 servators, 3 heavy weapons, and 2 platoons of units each containing 50 units + officers. So my army of 700+ pts is like 100 somethin plus men. ) And i am just startin.

P.S. I didn't mean to sound harsh, and also i dont really know if it is the same with Catachan... i use the Cadians.

Ok...So, assuming you went uber cheapo on your officers and tanks...lets see how many points your army come out to.

    HQ- JO and autocannon 55pts
Elites - Techpriest and 4 tech servitors 85pts
Troops- 2 platoons consisting of JO and heavy bolter, then 5 regualr infatry squads +700pts
    Heavy Support - 2 bassies 150pts
    TOTAL - 990pts

No offence or anything but your list seems to be a bit over 700 points my friend. I recomend you go back to the book and sort things out.

But ya, us guard do have alot of men on the field.

Well I was doing this off the top of my head... 3 things:
1: I got new recruitments, haven't added the points
2: I was just giving a general list
3: I didn't want to give actual points because I got yelled at earlier for it.

    1) Ah, ok sorry.
    2) K
    3) It's ok to give the point cost for the Force Org, ie giving points for the TROOP choice and such. Just not sepcific units/wargear and whatnot.
