I was having a look through my collection today, and something of an epiphany came over me.
I have 3 Rhino APC models. I have not used them since 4th edition came in. The way things are, I will probably never use them again (please - no posts trying to convince me otherwise). These models are currently useless to me.
I was thinking this sad fact over, when I realised that with a bit of mail-ordering and repainting I could soon turn them into a nasty armoured component of my force. I'm thinking if I order a new Predator turret, a Whirlwind Turret and take apart from 3rd Edition Vindicator and remount the cannon on one of the Rhinos I could double the number of tanks I own. I'd then have a Forgeworld Vindicator equivalent, and could scrap my old Vindicator for a terrain piece. I could probably make 3 new tanks and a terrain piece by investing only £15.
So the point of this post? I'm just wondering:
1/ Whats people's opinions on this? Am I being too hasty by writing off all my Rhinos?
2/ Or is this a good idea? Has my refitting project inspired you to a similiar effort?
3/ Should I really do it to all of them, or keep a Rhino or two for reserve?
4/ Any other suggestions of something I could convert? I was thinking of something from Imperial Armour with a cheap Forgeworld 'conversion kit', seeing as I already have a Rhino base vehicle to model on.
5/ Suggestions for a terrain piece to make out of my old Vindicator chassis. I'm thinking about buying a Chaos Rhino sprue and tarting it up into a destroyed Chaos Rhino. I'm just wavering over what legion's colours to paint it in. So far Black Legion is currently most likely, although a Space Wolves vehicle (me playing DA) is also looking tempting...
6/ Any other opinions/idea welcome.

I've been planning on doing a similar thing. I have two Rhinos from a couple of battleforces that I've bought, and they need a good home. One is already assembled, so I'm not so sure it's going to look terribly good as anything (I'm slowly working on making a Vindicator out of it.) The other is still sitting on it's sprue, waiting for me to order the bits to make it into something more interesting. I may get a third if I end up buying the BT Rhino since I've yet to see the BT vehicle sprue available in the US.
One suggestion is to use some magnets instead of tearing them apart completely. That way if you want to revert your Predator back into a Rhino, you can. Of course, by the time you want to do that, they may have put out yet another model for the Rhino. Magnets are a good and cheap way to be indecisive, however.
Here we Go!
1] Don't foget, its cheaper to replace a Rino, then to buy a FW vindicator and such. Or use Magnets as already stated.
2] Well, I don't have any Rhinos, I am working on a SoB immolator right now (it's all hush hush)
3] I'd say try and use magnets on at least one, that way you have the option, but really, I think you'll be fine, as it seems you've adapted your SM Force to the lack of Rhinos.
4] Definetly pick up the FW Vindicator kit, it rocks. Also maybe look into the Command Rhino? Good way to mahe a special model while still keeping the Rhino useful as a Rhino. FW dosen't have much for the Rhinos, Get some doors or a dozer blade. other than that, maybe try trading teh extra rhinos off, chances are you'd could get some good trades, I'd love a rhino to convert to my hearts contemp.
5] Show it all bogged down with a big blast hole in the side.
As others have mentioned, make everything magnetic. That way you can still use them as a rhino if you want or swap pieces out and all that.
I can read now!
I have this too....including one in its box still.
I however will be getting bits to make up a Damocles command rhino, so thats one reason its still in its box.
As for my other two or three....I'm not so sure on. I hardly used them before 4th ed anyway. I think I'd prefer to make them into nifty terrain bits, though since I have an Ork army in the planning stages, I might save some bits for that.
These command Rhinos that people speak of, where are the rules? I'm going to guess Imperial Armor III seeing as that's the one I don't own. I could be crazy, too.
The rules for the Damocles are in Imperial Armour II, I beleive.
On paper they seem like nice little tanks for what they can do compared to the posts cost for them. Though I mainly want mine for the painting part of it, and a possible plan for a diorama with it.
I'd suggest turning them into the Vind/Whirl/even a Baal Predator as plenty of people have suggested. Just like everyone my old edition rhino's have been replaced with new ones.. the old one's turned nicely into Ork Vehicles: Guntrucks, Wagons... its part of the reason i started Orks... a couple became terrain pieces of exploded rhino's.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
This topic just makes me a saad panda...
Edit: And a more helpful tip, start an Ork army and loot them! You can have exactly 3 Rhinos.

Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
I presume they are already stuck together?
If not the rhino kits actually snap fit into position. I have at the moment a whirlwind and a vindicator that at my whim, can turn into rhino's or any other rhino chasis based vehcile, provided I have the parts.
This method also helps with transportation and looks cool when you dismantle them on the battlefield when thier destroyed.
