What does everyone think about using a Deathwatch kill team in 1500 points? I know they can eat up alot of points, but, with 2 heavy bolters, normal bolters rerolling wounds, potentially a librarian with some psychic power to help. And veterans armed with lightening claws/ power fists. It seems like they could be a great addition to a imperial guard force.
Has anyone tried using them in small battles? 2000 or less really.
He's coming for you...
WD 306? has a battle report where 2500pt IG force goes against a 2500pt tyranid army, it was a codex release battle so goes without saying the 'nids won but the kill team was just a beast in that battle report killing more then double their points worth.
Should check it out.
Whats a deathwatch kill team? And how is it used in conjunction with the army?
I'm confused slightly
A deathwatch killteam is a elite space marine unit that is comprised of the best marines from different chapters. They paint their power armor black, the left shoulder pad always bears the Deathwatch insignia, though the right shouder pad is always the insignia of the chapter they first belonged to.
They are all true-grit which means they can weild a bolter and combat weapon. They are led by a commander/librarian whichever you want. They have special ammo for their bolters which do different things. And their heavy bolters can be fired at assault 3 instead of heavy 3, with a detriment in range. Veterans in the unit can also be upgraded to have power weapons, power fists, light claw, or a pair of light claws. They are great, just expensive to field in a big unit. 400+ points potentially.

Yeah, but I think that extra CC umph is worth it in a guard army. Ogryns and Rough riders are good, but there's someting to be said for a veil of time librarian and a hidden powerfist. Plus those heavy bolters and bolters are really good against most units.
Take life seriously, its lethal.
Sounds good, although I probabily wouldn't invest in 'Rines.
I donno. As a guardsman, I wouldn't associate myself with the space marines. They're just elitist glory boys. The true might comes from the meat and muscle of the imperial guard.
Where would one find the rules for these kind of things though?
And are Imperial guard even allowed to ally with space marines?
Totaly agree. I just don't see the likes of space marines with a mess of Guardsmen, let alone a deathwatch kill team. Then again 2500 points is a huge battle, and may atract the attention of the Ordo Xenos. But, i would not use a kill team unless there was a little bit of fluff thrown into their part in the battle.Originally Posted by WezAlmighty
Just my two cents.
Fluff wise it really isn't that unfluff to use Death Watch with the Guard, hell since they are all ultimately fighting for the same thing and all (the Imperium and Emperor and all that stuff..).
But I can really see the Deathwatch squad giving any Imperial Guard army a good boost in fire power. Plus they will more than likely attract alot of attention, attention that will give your weaker squads time to shoot the hell out of.
Just my thoughts though.
