I dont know why i can't win! How should I use this army? Give me some tactics! How should I improve MY army!!! Why can't i win!!!!!!!!1
Er this is an army list. In future please try to post such things in the army list forum.
Sorry i'm new here and really need some help!!!
By the way...you have 3 HQ choices.
While you can legally take extra characters with a command squad, you have no command squad. Ergo your list is currently illegal. I'll edit this in 5 minutes once I've read the rest of your list.
Edit: Ignore...I saw 'honour guard' and assumed honor guard. If in fact you meant command squad and just mislabelled it (as is probably the cast), I'm wrong.
Yea i meant command squad and my librarian is in the command squad so I only have 2 hq choices. Getting past the technecality's why dose my army suck so much?
I'd appreciate any help!
Far too many points in HQ, you have a third of your army tied down in basically these three models. And that command squad is far too small, you need your close combat squads to be 10 models large. The only time you ever take a 5 man squad is if it's a shooty squad with a single heavy weapon. Cut it down to a single character (preferably the Chaplain), and make the command squad 10 men if you want to take them. Currently they are useless.Originally Posted by killakeggerAgain...far too expensive for this points level. I don't bother taking Terminators till your game size gets to 1700 points. Drop them if you can, and take more standard marines.Originally Posted by killakeggerGood, though if your going for a shooty dreadnought your better off taking the twin-linked Lascannon and going tank-hunting. So either drop the missile launcher, or add the twin-linked lascannon.Originally Posted by killakeggerRight...you need a lesson in how to make Space Marine squads.Originally Posted by killakegger
If you are going shooty and static, take a 5 man squad with a heavy weapon.
If you are going shooty and mobile, take the plasma gun.
If you are going to assault, make it a big squad a powerfist sergeant and give them an assault weapon.
You have a hodgepodge of a squad with no clear aim. First I'd drop the flamer - they are basically useless against nids and chaos. I have 4 flamer armed models and haven't used them for over a year. Either then make this squad 10 men and drop the missile launcher, or drop the powerfist sergeant and keep it as it is. I'd look up some of the articles on how to equip tactical squads on LO, they should help you. And drop the plasma pistol on the sergeant for a Plasma Gun. Does the same job better and is cheaper...Why not 8 with sniper rifles? Why not 10 in fact? And you mean bolt pistols and close combat weapons....otherwise it would be illegal.Originally Posted by killakeggerAgain, I'll assume you mean Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon. The other way around would only work with True Grit, which you haven't listed as something you have taken. Good...but needs to be bigger! Cut off the power weapon and make it a power fist. Being untargetable in close combat, powerfist sergeants are great for swinging away till they are the last man. Oh and drop the storm shield, your getting one less attack - and his non-independant character status is what your relying upon to protect him. Put more men round him instead.Originally Posted by killakeggerGood - no problems there for once.Originally Posted by killakegger
To sum up though, the reason your losing is that your lacking marines. You have like 600 points tied up in an over-expensive HQ and those terminators. Drop them, and you could take like 30 more Space Marines. And learn to focus your tactical squads. Don't take a close combat upgrade like a powerfist, and give it to a 5 man squad that won't last 5 minutes and that has a heavy weapon so can't move up the table to get in close combat in the first place.
Hope my suggestions get you on your winning ways.
I think your problem is that your army is too close comabt oriented. rather than shooter oriented. Normally that isnt really a bad thing because space marines arent bad in CC. But if your are facing Orks & tyranids..you wont be hoping to win a close combat show down. the best way to beat orks & tyranids is with long range weapons. Blow the hell out of them while they are advancing towards you and pray that there isnt much left by the time they reach you. and dont even think about charging forward to meet them head on. play on the defence and maybe counter attack once youve blown most of them to smithereens.
For example. your scout squad has CC weapons & bolt pistols. Obviously not the best equipment for killing at range which is what is needed. to be more effective in that regard you would be better off with 3 sinper rifles, a heavy bolter & whatever you want for the sergeant.
TY TY TY!!! That's exactly what i needed. now i just need to go shopping for tacticle squads!!! One more question... Should I ad more heavvy support, and if so what type? I'm going to go for a shooty army that uses heavy support to take out the hordes of nids and orks and then uses troops fast attack hq lites to take out the big scary guys! I sure hope this works. I think it will work best against nids and imp grds!
As a way to sum up everything I would probably have said anyway...
On the heavy support issue, I suspect you need some Lascannons. You are really going to struggle with your limited anti-tank and Tyranids (with all their +2 save monstrous creatures are really going to give you a headache).
Things I would recommend:
5 Man tactical squads with Lascannon.
Predator with all lascannon options.
Devastator Squad with 4 Heavy Bolters = Swarm Killer.
Oh and I forgot to say before, if you ever take the Librarian give him a familiar, bolt pistol and terminator honours. With what it can do to go at I6....it's a bargain.
