ok ok now before you all start screaming at me what the best tactic is watever i'll say this. im starting imperial gurad as an actual army (ive played every army multiple times) and i also collect 'nids. NOw i have a few question regarding this.
i want to do a doctrines lsit preferably mechanised, die-hard, iron discipline and maybe 2 more but those are the ones im taking for sure.
Now i want to take as many sentinals as possible beacuse i think that many many players underestimate their abilities -although you have to have a fair idea of how your gonna use them for them to work.....
but i would also like to know what people think of taking armoured-fist squads as my troop choices instead of infantry platoons beacuse im going to be mechanised anyway so i mas-well save myself the trouble.
any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.
I think the rule with mechanised is you still take Infantry Platoons, you just give each squad (including Command Squads) a Chimera. So it's basically taking Armored Fists, but with command squads.
As for the Sentinels, I guess you could load out with 9 of them. It really depends on the armies you fight most as to how effective they'll be. With a base starting cost of at least 40, things a lot cheaper than that can kill it.
I'll admit, I never learned how to use them, so if you can figure it out, go ahead.
Half Gods are worshiped with Wine and Flowers. Real Gods are worshiped in Blood.
Blood for the Blood God! Beer for the Bronze Keg!
yea thats what i mean with the mechanised rule its cheaper for me to buy armoured fist squads then infantry platoons and you can have 12 sentinals -9 for fast attack and then 3 in a support squad for the command HQ
Thats also the thing about them they can be effective againset any army becasue of theri weapons loadout. with options of either heavy flamer multi melta assualt cannon or las cannon (i think thats right) you can equip them how you need. plus if i had 12 i could have 3 of each pattern allowing me good flexibility as they could deal with most threats expically in tourny games.

I agree Insomnia. I think Sentinels are under-rated in their potential role as a mobile heavy weapons platform. Particularly in a grenadier army where they can fill a heavy weapon gap.
I looked into hardened fighters Sentinels once, but I decided they wern't worth the bother. It dosen't have a power weapon and it's still initiative 3. So the extra attack is pretty pointless when it can serve so many other roles more efficiantly. Seems a waste to make it a poor excuse for a Dreadnaught.
As for your armoured fist squads:
Remeber, you have to take at least 1 infanty platoon for every armoured fist squad, so you can't just throw 2 armoured fists on the table as a troop choice, you would have to field every squad with their own Chimera.
The other option is Grenadiers.
I find the best way to use Armoured Fist squads, or Mechanized squads is to give them COD, a vet sgt, and start them in cover away from the enemy shooting one HW and one SW. Use the Chimeras for mobile fire support, or start them "obscured" if possible. The only upgrade I would add to this type of Chimera is Smoke, and perhaps a Heavy Stubber.
For Mechanized lists, I have Lascannon/Plasma Gun in every troop squad. I might use the 3 Melta or 4Plasma combos for the command squads.
Grenadiers are better for sending out for objective taking, flanking or taking out Infilators - the periferal part of of the battlefield. For these, I would add smoke and EA to my Chimeras. I would equip the Grenadiers with two Meltas (for assault or Tank busting, and give the Vet SGT a power weapon.

I like the idea Diggums, but a Chimera seems way overpointed to use as a mobile fire support platform - and a mediocre one at that.
This is why I always groan at Chimeras in army lists. A sensibly equipped Chimera (eg. turret weapon, hull HB, extra armour and possibly smoke launchers), is going to cost you at least 85-90pts. Is it really worth it for what is essentialy a minor fire support platform?
what about the hellhound?
"Crescit in adversis virtus" (Virtue is Born in Hardship)
"Cheese is the cry of the weak"
You are; Empire (truly)
You are 63% Honorable, 47% Bloodthirsty, 37% Magic-minded, and 85% tactically-oriented!
Or you could make it an armoured rocket launcher or Lascannon platform-top hatch 1 model may shot out of it and it may be a heavy weapon if the chimera didnt move that turn -so you could just have a few chimeras with heavy weapons if u wanted to use them in fire-support roles.
Dam its a bit of a ***** about the armoured fist squads then....
At last someones aggrees with me about sentinals! all the people who play guards at my club say their not worth their time -i dont want to give them hardend fighters, i want 2 give them die-hards and iron discipline,
so would mechanised not be a good choice then? should i just stick to standard guys and take 3 other doctines
the other doctrines i would take would be
Heavy weapons platoons
and i would probably take conscript platoons as they would provide a good distraction for my sentinals.
no i wouldnt want no-humans in this army list cos its a themed list
