    Odd armies

I'm just finishing my Ultra Marines and am looking to do something completely unconventional. It doesn’t have to be a great army just extremely different, challenging and annoying to my opponent.:ninja:

so far I have three Ideas, one a an armored company, an army of Conscripts and three russes, or a stormtrooper army. The last one isn’t to bad but should be pretty fun.

    What do you think?

Well, with conscripts, you can only take one Conscript Platoon for each Infantry Platoon.

What you could do is something like an army I made for 2000 point games.
4 Infantry Platoons, all with 5 full squads. Each Platoon has 2 Autocannons, 2 Missile Launchers, and 2 Heavy Bolters. No speacial Weapons.
HQ Command has something...whatever you can fit.
And 1 Commissar with Power Weapon....I think there is a Leman Russ in there too.

It totals something like 225 Men and 1 tank.

Is that annoying? When Placing your Troops, you put down 55 men for ONE choice?

That would be a ton of painting (Says looking at the shelf with 1/2 painted dwarves, slayers, HE, and O&G army...). Time management (Lacking). But it would be fun to just drop tons of guys, might need a commissar for each platoon to keep them from running away.

if you want to swarm your opponent(2-3 squads of I.G. per one squad of thiers), go with an army that has conscripts. take 2 full platoons of regular guardsmen, using only special weapons, and two full platoons of conscripts with flamers, so they soak up fire for your real guardsmen, and get close with conscripts and flame enemy to death with auto-hiting flamers.

if your looking for something similar to marines, grenadiers is good.max your 3 troops choices with grenadiers(3 is as high as you can have as troops) and max elites with storm troopers as well. then, try to get at least to 1500 points, to use allies.then fill 2 troops choices with grey knight storm troopers. fill last troops choice with guardsmen if you want.

and just so you know, I came out of ultramarines and went into guard too

I would rather give the Stormtroopers teleport homers and drop GKs down using them as fast attack. That way when one of my squads is in danger I can save it.

Ive decided I want to use Cypher though, so Ill have to build a list he can be used in... this takes armoured company out dosent it?

sadly, you can only take 2 troops choices of allies, but one G.K. storm trooper squad with teleport homer is useful in that case.

Can't I take one elite and one fast attack choice of allied GK's?

That would be a mean trick to. some one charges my lowly guard and a homing squad of death shoots down and saves them. It's like saving your little brother form a bully in a school yard.

Heh, I faced an IG army that used, I think, 10 GKTs and 10 FAGKs as allies.

'Hey, isn't your army a bit small?'

sorry 'bout that, I quickly skimmed the page, yes you can take an elite and fast attack.
grey knight termies are my best friends

    how about this
1 command platoon, decked with carapace armour(it's in the armoury, so use it for any type of officer and make guardsmen all veterans, with carapace armour
2 storm trooper squads as elites
1 G.K. termie squad(max or min squad size, your choice) for elites
    3 grenadiers as troops
2 G.K. storm tropers as troops with tele homers
1 G.K. space marine squad as fast attack
1 leman russ(why not?, give me a reason why not)
any other unit to get to 1500 points to actually get the grey knights in the first place*+**

    simple tactic-
move troops with tele homers into position, with the grenadiers as decoys.then teleport elite/fast attack in any hot spots(objectives, enemy expensive unit, etc, etc.) crush enemy as needed

    I like it
*- 1500 points to use allies, as previously mentioned.
**- outkit existing units heavily to get that much closer to getting to 1500 points
