OK, so with my chapter traits and fluff laid out I'm starting a 500 point force. With my traits I can have an apothocary in each squad for plus 25 pts and I have Purity above all (I'm on holiday at the moment so i haven't got my codex) but i can only have a 0-1 choice on land speeders and bikes.
get two full tactical squads at first that will give you a good anchor and give them special or heavy weapons depending on what your facing ML are a good choice but H bolter for hordes works equally if not better. Also get a captain or master so as to keep that morale high. Try arming him to acheive both long range and cc enemies. a power sword and storm bolter should be good. After that it all depends on what you want to do Id go with some scouts or get those one bikes choice maybe 3 to 4 bikes and an attack bike awesome flanker.
"They shall all taste OBLIVION!,.....which tastes like Red Bull, which is disgusting."
Well what sort of playing style are you going for?Do you want your army to be good at shooting?Good at assaulting?Balanced??Without knowing that its pretty hard to help you out that much.
Yeah well to start off your force you should buy 2 tactical squads and decide how you will equip them.
Then buy a chaplain. These guys are a great bargain for what they come with and can do.
From then on its up to how you decide you want to play your army.
I'm thinking of a close combat army cous they hate orks and want to slauter them personally.
the Drop pods which i want will add to my plan.By striking them by surprise I can kill them swiftly.
If using drop pods, then out fit your squads for lots of shooting when they land, but a good counter-attack when they get assaulted your opponent's by orks. Keep in mind that a nob will be I6 when he charges, and the rest of the orks will be I4. Perhaps apothecaries are not a good choice: you need to stay out of combat to use their equipment, I believe. Might want to re-think that...

Well when your playing orks you don't want to really go with an assaulty marine army. You want to shoot them as much as possible and thin down their numbers.Because if you go right up and assault them you will get severely smashed, they are superior to you in close combat mainly because they outnumber you dramatically.
SO take as many heavy bolters as you can and maybe a whirlwind or two to thin down their numbers and then have a counter-assault unit like an assault squad with chaplain in it to take on some of whats left.
But you don't want to go right in there and assault, stand back and let him come to you and shoot the hell out of him then when you are in charge range assault him if he has been thinned down enough.
